Hi All, new to this forum and to Soarers, but an old hand with Toyotas, having owned just a few over the years. These have included Corolla and Celica Sports Sedans, and the Soarer is destined for the same outcome - a rather unique race car.
I bought my JZZ30 from - of all places - a hock shop, still drivable and ready to road register. It won't be seen on the road though, except for the drive home.
I'll try to maintain a photographic storyline of the stripdown and rebuild, and because I'm only using the shell and not really much else, I'll regularly be posting stuff for sale. Everything from the engine to interior has to go, or will end up in the bin. If you are after a particular part let me know, and I'll tell you what condition it is in and how much for it - lots of stuff will be going for free, as long as you pick it up!
Some bits and pieces are a bit rough (like the scratches on the bumpers), and other stuff is in good condition (like the engine). The 1JZ will be out and up for sale fairly soon, and will include the full loom, ECU and all the intercooler bits.
Anyway, enough rambling for now, this was only supposed to be an introduction.
Love the forum, especially the rules of engagement - nice to see grown-ups running one instead of having to deal with a bunch of kids giving each other worldly advice.

Good, looks like the photos worked.
To answer your questions Stuart and Mike:
Car is being rebuilt into a Sports Sedan for circuit racing.
Due to class restrictions I need to run a normally aspirated engine, so the JZ is out. A turbo puts the car in the "spaceframe" (or outright) category, against cars that have budgets potentially 10 times mine.
I'm going with the 1UZ, for a few reasons - it's NA, lighter than the JZ, physically fits easily into the car, they are cheap, and I already had one in stock after experimenting with it in the Corolla...
As for the progress reports Mike, I'll be starting a new thread in another section of the forum in the next couple of days, so keep an eye out.
The strip down has commenced, so most parts are up for grabs now or very soon. Another thread will also be appearing in the classifieds section, but email me if you want anything in the meantime (as some have already).
Cheers,
Andrew

Sound good, I love this sort of project.
Looks like you have found a nice car too, looks straight and tidy from the pictures under the dust!
One thing though, wouldnt it have been better to get a factory 1UZ UZZ30 coil sprung v8 Soarer to work on if your planning on putting a 1UZ into a 1JZ Soarer? Just seems like a lot of extra work? Unless there is a reason why?

In an environmentally friendly effort to save water, I removed all the panels from the car, as well as the doors and windows. That way I don't have to wash it Peter...
Under the dust it isn't too bad - and really as it is only the shell that I'll be using, it is just fine. It has never had a hit, so all the important bits are straight.
And yep, I agree that a UZZ30 would have been a slightly quicker project (although with the complete strip down not that much quicker), but I managed to pick this one up rather cheaply so it was worth the little extra effort.
