Hey peoples, thought it right to give you an update on my affair with my Soarer. The transporting was a long process with the flat tyre and low ride height causing delays. Not being in brisbane or having anyone there to look after the loadout on that side meant wasted time all round...but good things come to those who wait.
Well that was the mindframe I had when I went to the depot to pick up my car and when she was wheeled out my heart skipped a beat...then the problems appeared. The spare wheel that had been chucked on in place of the flat one had not been secured properly with lug nuts..they were missing and i had to steal one from each of the others.
Then the battery was flat as a pancake on restart..great... back off to the rig whilst the girl got towed to my house. Copped abuse from the missus for car scraping over ridge into driveway
So with a new battery in there I fired her up and she was rough..took encouragement just to get her to idle...so took her round to Blaine's place for some tweaking. At this point it's worth saying that without his help the whole project may have been in the 'too hard' basket.
Blaine has more soarers at his house than I have had hot dinners and I was very lucky to be able to scrounge off one of his donor cars. We first swopped out fuel ecu, changed spark plugs which were wrong type, and then dug out the main Ecu.
There the problem lay...a motec type in place of the standard one seemed to be the main cause for concern. Once we changed this out for basic ecu the car fired up and idled nicely.
Not that I'm out of the woods yet. I got the error message 'alternator not charging battery' in japanese yesterday...trying to find tutorials on this if anyone has any links (my search for alternator has turned up diddly squat).
And there's a few other things to do, immobiliser, bulbs, before going over the pits. It looked like the previous owner had spent some money trying to diagnose engine/ecu problems without luck so fluids seem pretty good.
Also got a strange one with the indicator where the right one blinks at 100m/hr compared to the slow left one..
Hope to be out there and driving soon. In regards to whether this was the best or worst money I've ever spent... at the moment its not quite over the line yet, but if I can spend more time fixing this car up and learning as I go it will be an absolute blessing. Congrats if you persevered with the long post this far !!!

Luke welcome, dont worry about people who are negative about your car. I reckon at least as many like that style. The fast blinker can also be caused by a blown bulb so check that its actually working.

Thanks for the comments guys, went and saw the Toyota dealers in Morley and was nicely surprised at how helpful the parts guy was. Sorted me out with new air filter, low beam bulbs, drive belt and pump seal kit. So some work ahead of me.
Booked in for immobiliser fit on Friday and going to try to see Joe the mechanic up in Wangara for some advice - still running rough. So with Blaine offshore again I'm putting the call out to any friendly soarer owners with time on their hands who wouldn't mind guiding me in the right direction - alternator and power steering pump seals are next on the to do list.
Not expecting anything but if anyone fancies helping me out with a challenge....well i'll be buying the beers. Thanks

I told him it wasn't directed at him, Ben. Obviously some people like the kit or you wouldn't see it on 1/5 Soarers. There's no rule about posting your opinion, Ben.
