Hi all, today i got my 1991 soarer V8 emv air sunroof reverse cam leather, was going to go private sale, but saw this in a yard looked at it for hours then did a deal and it's mine...
140K on the clock seems kinda genuine and drives really smooth, it's amazing how well these cars hold up... compare it to an average VN for exapmle!
anways, i've spent days reading all the old posts and finding out everything i can about the soarer... but i have a few issues that escape me atm, i'd love some help if anyone has any ideas...
firstly the sub amp has no connections to it and therefore it dosent work, also the speakers sound like there is an echo, then after a play around with the settings i can make that go away.... but it's not very loud even when on full vol... also the stacker is jammed, but i think i can fix that..
other than that the only other issues so far is random stalling and occasional rough idle, stalls at idle mostly when in reverse, at the moment not really an issue, but i'll nut it out... it's going to get a complete service very soon like timing belt plugs all fluids filters and pretty much all else so i can have some piece of mind...
and the last problem is what seems to be some backlash in the driveline, you can hear a clunk when you accelerate then back off, hopefully its something simple before the diff jumps out, i can afford a new one!
other than that it drives really well and when i got it it was pretty much stock except for an aftermarket suspension controller, havent fully figured out how to use it though, but im getting there...
already i have fitted a crappy cat back system for some sound, i say crappy cos the rear mufflers are cannons lol, but it was cheap and is still quiet which is what i wanted, yet loud enough for me to hear a slight growl with no resonation or vibration, to be honest it sounds quite nice...
other than that i have purchased a set of chrome 20's but they are being machined, and i'll chuck them on next week....
and i've told my girlfriend thats it! just the rims and fix her up to be reliable and just get the stereo system sorted out, and leave the rest of the car alone..... she still thinks otherwise as i cant help myself, so when i sell my other car im sure there is going to be a s/c fitted to it, i'd be really happy with very high 13's with the sc kit as a daily, at the moment its shockingly slow... but then its a heavy bugger... but it's funny that my other car a 1.0L can drag the soarer off to 80km easily lol

Welcome!
Sounds like it has some major engine issues Andrew! Everyone goes on about the UZZ's being slow, but thats really only in comparison to a JZZ30 - a UZZ31 in good tune can and should do 0-100 in well under 7 seconds, which is not slow - if you have a 1 litre Dihatsu or something that can beat your UZZ31, something is very, very wrong. Even my JZZ31 will keep up with modern 3 litres, like Honda Accords etc, and its not as quick as my UZZ30 was.
Interesting that you have TT 10 spokes on, someone must have swapped them over at some stage...

nope i have a turbo smart car 70rwkw and 750kg it does 0-50km/h in 2.3 sec which is quicker than my mates G6E turbo.... but after that.... to be honest it goes ok and after a service and reset should be better, the air filter is pratically black! still such a smooth engine makes a nice change from a rough idleing 3cyl
thanks for identifying the wheels, makes the ebay auction easier ;) although i really should keep them, but i just have no room

Welcome Andrew! Haha I was wondering what kind of 1 litre you were referring to. That clunk is odd, the rest is fairly common, for idling problems check out your IAC: http://planetsoarer.com/IAC/iac.htm also tighten up your acceleration and cruise cables, under "for new soarer owners".
Stereo-Check the wiring going to your radio receiver, rear passenger side under the seat(where your nees would be), this is sometimes loose/broken(or it was in mine!). The amp is in the boot under the CD stacker, could check that too, it has two plugs.

thanks mate that link is great, i think i'll print it out and give it to the mechanic to follow, im nackered and need a holiday, i had half the car apart today, damn the dust, it must have been in the desert with the windows down for 10 years lol, i've done the cables... but it's going to the mechanic tuesday for a complete overhaul all fulids filters belts etc... and i mean all trans diff everything! big cost but i need the piece of mind...
i tries all the plugs on everything i could find, under the seat in the boot everywhere, also reset the ecu, but to be honest i havent noticed a great deal of difference... it has a slight hesitation just after launch, it launches hard then @ 2000ish rpm stays flat to 3500rpm then takes off! but you should see the state of the aircleaner its black, so after a service im hoping its going to come good...
i tried debadging today, i hate badges on cars and like the clean look, but he paint is chipped under the badges so it's gotta stay that way
i know its bad for the suspension but check out what the after market suspension controller can do, i love the slammed look!!

far too much i reckon, it cost me 8500 drive away 12mths reg and rwc, the interior is in tip top shape and pretty much all things work other than the stereo system which is haywire, but the emv seems fine... occasionally a fault code pops up here or there but then goes away, got an alarm too and remote locking, and the a/c works well thankfully.... there was heaps of cars out there but i saw and i liked this one, so i brought it, it had all i wanted, v8 air suspension camera sunroof leather emv (although im thinking maybe i should have not got one with emv) it's funny for a 1991 model car how many cool things it does like the steering column and the seats and how the passanger one goes forward and back when you flip it forward and te rearview cam and the folding mirrors that vibrate and stuff.... im still finding out cool things it does LOL and it's ancient... most new cars dont have half the gear!
and how well built they are no rattles or noises or anything, i have a european (french built) 2008 model car and it makes far more noises than the soarer..
best bit for me is the air suspension though, it's working fine at the moment (fingers crossed it will stay like that for a while) it's great as i have a steep bit on the driveway and my previous cars would get beached on it, i drive it though mainly at what i think factory height is, it seems to drive and steer better at a certain setting... but on max high its bouncy as but high enough to take it up a mountain side.... i can say almost het my head between the tyre and gaurd for example... not that im going to try it incase it instantly deflates but yeah... i'll get a pic of it at max height tomorrow...
also has anyone here got a datasystems suspension controller, it has 3 buttons for height setting and 2 pots to turn manually to adjust..
