Hi guys,

Is there any kind guru souls in perth (north of the river) who would come and inspect a potential soarer for me, or should I just take it to Hollywood Joe?

Cheers

cool thanks, was just thinking about maybe eliminating possible lemons (eg. turbos just about to explode) before I bother Joe with a detailed inspection

its just runnning diagnostic check, all the dash lights will come on with ignition, its a way of telling thd driver that all the globes are good.

I think the cat light also serves as the engine check light?

I was going to take it to Joe, but he was away on holiday. I didn't think it was necessary with this car either because of the immaculate condition is was kept in, previous owner was anthony murray's son in law (of the furniture superstore) and he's a multi-millionaire. his daughter drove it and he kept it beautifully for her.
absolutely loving the car, can't show it off enough :-)

Would still be worth getting it checked over so you know what is going to fail.
If not Joe then someone else who knows about the cars because there is lots of which WILL fail eventually and its handy to have the cash ready for when it does =P

Good on ya if you are happy with the buy =)

the way i figure, i'll find out eventually what's wrong with the car (if there is anything, i've been told vigorously that there isn't) and i'll just save as much money as i can until then. knowing what's going to fail isn't going to help much because i don't have the money to fix it now anyway

Not a good idea to buy an aging car you can't afford to fix. I worry about the day something expensive goes wrong with mine these days, as now we have one income it would be a struggle to find the cash to replace something like a lower control arm etc.

Nice car Michael.
Wow, only 5000km for a 18 year old car! And it would have just had its first service done.

Enjoy!

they actually wrote it wrong in the ad. it's down 180,000. so not that good, but still quite alright for a 18 year old car. i'll post pics of the interior as soon as i take some/figure out how to post them

I'm sorry to seem brash but this is a very dangerous way of thinking with regards to these cars.
Despite the owners saying there is nothing wrong there will be problems brewing beneath the surface.

For example, when i bought my car it was checked out by a reputable garage who gave it a glowing report.
2 weeks later and one of the shock absorbers had failed.
2 months later and the gearbox failed.
Several months after that the aircon completely buttf--ked itself.

It's not that i bought a lemon its just these cars are all aging and have hundreds of various common faults that can occur.

If you car is coming up on 180,000kms then you need to at least get a mechanic to check it over and give you a baseline report so that you know what things you will need to start replacing or repairing in the near future (ie, brake pads or discs, radiator top tank, power steering pump).

Dont forget you will also have a 100,000kms service coming up for your 200,000kms mark.

Try and be smart about it and listen to what established owners have advice wise and you will have the least number of hassles.

don't stress, i'll get it serviced regularly. it'll take me a couple of years to get to 200,000 anywho.
so you're saying, even though you got your car checked by a reputable mechanic, various things failed...so what's the point in me spending money on getting my car checked. may as well just wait for things to fail, if that's what you think is going to happen.

In my instance i took the car to a garage who later told me that they dont know much about Toyotas or their specific quirks and could only apply their knowledge on working with race built Nissans.

I'm not going to mention their name and risk people thinking badly of them because they are still a good garage to get work done.

Someone such as Hollywood Joe knows Toyotas though, specifically Soarers and will be able to give you better insight than another decent mechanic.

The point on spending money and getting your car checked is so that if there are any issues which are already showing their signs of failure and havent failed yet you can get on them according to your schedule rather than the car's.

To be honest if you aren't willing to listen to people trying to give you sound advice with your best interests in heart then i dont have any more time for you.

Good luck dude =)
