Hello everyone,
My name's Frank, I'm from NSW. At the end of 2006 I dropped a 1JZ-GTE into my 244 Volvo, backed onto the R154. A custom tailshaft, locked diff, floorpan/tunnel mods, custom radiator, intercooler, engine mounts and other bits and pieces later and I have the finished product. Well, no project car is ever complete, but you get the idea.

good work my mate is a volvo nut he would love this. only thing i reckon to do is to put the cannon in a bit just sticks out a bit far. but other than that nice job

Thanks for the kind words guys! It's always nice when people appreciate something you've worked hard on.
Aaron, I admit the cannon is a bit much, but I got it for $50 towards the end of the conversion when money was becoming tight It doesn't poke out past the bumper, it actually sits flush with it, but it still does stick out like a sore thumb.

Great work Frank, very original and well executed. I like these sort of projects as they make great sleepers, if I were you I'd try and hide that massive cannon and maybe even delete the spoiler then you would have a true ninja of a sleeper.

i love sleeper projects too, although the paint and style gives it away a bit, sort of like brown ragtop datson's going "brap brap brap" next to you at lights
well done, whats done power wise as it looks to be rather stock from airbox etc.

i had thought of a volvo 242 gt coupe for a drift/track car was keeping my eye on one on ebay. but i went with the celica ra40 coupe instead. good to see someone bringing the old euro girls back into action ;)

Nah, I like the spoiler, it's a genuine mould of the Group A spoilers used back in the 80's on the 240 racing Volvos. It's a bit hard to make the thing a true sleeper, considering it's dark purple. But most people still can't guess what's under the bonnet.
Power wise, things are still mostly standard. The airbox was retained for emissions and engineering reasons. Otherwise there's a PWR intercooler, PWR custom radiator, 3" exhaust from the turbos back, Walbro 255L/h fuel pump, 3" one-piece tailshaft, locked diff, custom clutch with 2700lbs clamping pressure. There haven't been any major power mods, and I haven't wound the boost up, though I was after a set of Lew's dump pipes but sadly came to the party too late and I can't seem to get my hands on any now.

I really like engine conversions and Frank's Volvo is a fine example. Excellent stuff. I believe the 1J is perfect for any conversion. A volvo station wagon would be great to convert too.
For dump pipes you can either get them custom made. Premier exhaust at Newcastle can make them

Thanks George, though I'm still not sure if I should spend the money on the split dumps, or save for the single turbo conversion. I'm not spending much money on the car at the moment due to other commitments, but it's worth knowing who makes them. This is the second time I've heard that Premier Exhaust does them, so I may have to give them a call in the near future.
