UPDATE!
new pics and bfi setup:

Here is a pic of the high temp polycarbonate plastic (tinted) bolted in place to keep out engine heat.

Upload

Template in place + headlight piece

Upload

Final pic (screw holes will be filled with x-mas clips) and I am also thinking of getting some rubber to seal the edges, make it look nice.
You can see the filter through it, I like the tinted look.

Upload

And here are some pics I took yesterday after I gave it a clean at my mates house, don't mind the crashed skyline in the background.

Well done :-)

I need to make a top cover, I do almost everything else but have never bothered!

A great looking soarer you have there, what sort of wheels are you running?

It's a nice balanced height too!

awww mike. he has modified the standard airbox! dont you know toyota spent years on research and development on the airbox? how can you like it if its been modified? they kept it neat and compact but this modification with the adding of big plastic bits isnt your thing. lol.

just had to my bad :-)

hahaha but you dont like different front bars? just stirrin man, i know this mod is not about the looks but performance, but the principle is the same, just you saying that toyota spent years developing the standard front bar kinda relates to this being a modification from toyotas standard. lol

just playin mate. :-)

christian where did you get the tinted poly from?? how do you think acrylic would go??

Rims are speedy 17" 5 spokes, I want 18" IS350 Lexus wheels and I got the tinted poly from a plastics store,
still have some left if you wanna buy it haha (payed $35 for a sheet) it's really good for high temps and is used for headlights and parts in the engine bay.

And Mike, exhaust thurs!

Hey mate, did you notice much difference with your BFI? I did mine and the difference was quite significant! Haven't had time to do the top cover due to work but hope to get round to it this weekend!

Yeah should have and James, yeah I did, not much sound difference (only at high revs) but with the bonnet up it does sound good.

I dunno, I kinda like the current model 4 door Skyline, kinda a nice looking, practical car from what I can see, though no idea what its like to drive - R36 or whatever it is. Not the earlier models though, they are all ugly as sin.

Yeah they aren't too bad. I would say they will be good buys in the next couple of years. I would have one to do the shopping in.

I wouldn't say they are better Soarers. A Lexus-Toyota is going to be superior than some Infiniti Nissan model, they seem to lack the X factor in quality.

Actually a GS300/Aristo would be a better buy than a Skyline 250/300/350GT, they are worth about the same money.

For now, my plans are to strip off the toyota badges and get my mate (painter) to repaint the boot and fill the badge holes to make way for a rear griffin.

My power steering motor is off to my mechanic and I have bought a new regulator and is both being assembled as we speak ready for me to install.

After these are out of the way, I am considering extractors and high flow cats or 18" Lexus IS350 rims, ROH Modular 3-piece Modena's or SSR P1 Professors, but time will tell, might just keep the existing 17s.

Cheers guys,

Christian.

If you do go extractors, do it once and do it right - get them ceramic coated, the under-bonnet temperatures dropped on mine dramatically. Also, don't skimp and get two new high flow cats rather than throw the stockies back on

Yeah, I would agree with James.

Also getting an extra centre muffler would not be a a bad idea as they get pretty raspy with headers.

Good for sure, but they change from the smooth deeper tone you get in say Peter N's car (good example)

It becomes harsher and more like 90's Holden as a best way to describe it.

Double skin exhaust tubing would help to kill the rasp/metallic sound but that is unrealistic.

From my experiences if you do headers, good high flow cats are a must, then do a small dual in dual out stainless muffler (basically has an X pipe inside and helps to balance the banks very effectively) then out to rear oval mufflers, bigger chamber the better it would sound pretty good, Kinda like a factory new HSV VE of some sort.

Not too loud not too quiet, but if you want the bark and loudness then no mid muffler just a X or H pipe, too loud for me though.

An image to wet your appetite. Just after I got them ceramic coated.
Mike is right when he says the sound becomes harsher and more raspy. Hard to describe, but you couldn't take the smile off my face when I heard it for the first time after getting them fitted. It's awesome with the response compared to what was on there. Really makes me wounder why Toyota put the restrictive headers on in the first place. (Cost no doubt) I've got the extractors into 2x highflow cats, going into 2.25ich x pipe, 2x hotdogs into 2 straight through mufflers.

Has no drone at all. Sounds good but the guys who did my install said the car could benefit from a 2.5inch system as the 2.25inch exhaust is holding it back.

I might also add, I got a new oxy sensor as well, as for some reason there was not much room between the oxy senor mount and the cross member. So I got a slightly shorter one so the cross member wouldn't hit the oxy sensor going over a big bump. Wasn't a bad idea either, as the car was probably subjected to all sorts of gunk, oil and grime over the years. Also helped with fuel economy.
