I should mention something about the Soarer too!
Poor thing is a bit ill at the moment, but that is synonymous with an almost 18 year old car. I've got a few things to repair over my employer's festive season hiatus, such as:
- passenger door and window are being replaced
- stuffed ignition leads to be replaced (Soarer idles like an old NASCAR at times... but a bit of CRC on the offending lead wards off the wonky idle for a couple of days)
- transmission needs a service, it's somewhat overdue
- going to get the boot lid soda blasted and resprayed... why? The holes that were drilled by Sports and Luxury back in 1996 when my Soarer was first imported have begun to rust. I'm getting them fixed up and a co-worker is going to TIG weld them in, and I'll be finding some stock Soarer and Toyota badging to put on the car
- I need the mother of all cut and polishes!!!
- might even find the time to fix the dreaded blinky dash that I've lived with for over a year now
- going to stuff around with the exhaust a little too... getting rid of the centre resonator and ditching the rear mufflers... might have a slightly more aggressive tone and it's only going to cost around $50.
That's it for the time being... should keep me going for my 2.5 weeks off work over the silly season!
While I'm here... the co-worker who offered to weld in the holes in my boot lid is somewhat of a V8 man... has a mental Monaro running a stupidly huge huffer and methanol, putting it down the quarter mile pretty fast.... anyway he's offered a price on a complete exhaust system that will make everyone jealous. Here goes:
A fully TIG-welded set of extractors from the biggest stainless pipe he can fit on the manifold, with a fat merge collector, through to the dual stainless pipes, hiding the mufflers up where the mids are now... that way there are no offending mufflers hanging out at the back of the car and you get that nice sleek look... tips out from the bumper of course. He's trying to convince me that using 4" tube is a good idea... hmm who knows? Anyway $3k is the price, not too shabby considering that covers everything from the manifold to the bumper!
