| Thanks everyone! I have some 17" GS300 wheels which I'm having restored in silver to replace the undersized 15" wheels. I also have to work out how to install my height controller to lower it slightly. |

| Well, it says 47,012 klms. The car was in storage for the last 8 years, and never registered until now. |

| Thanks, I paid 12k, which seems to be quite high these days. But I wanted a car with the closest to perfect interior. By the way, the car now has WA plates. The VIC "UZZ-31" plates are for sale $1000. I'll put in the for sale section again.

| From what I have seen that is a realistic price, amazing as a few years ago that would have been worth heck around 20 or so.

Seems like you got it, the Tan is more desirable than the common grey trim IMO. |

| Yeah I like the tan too, looks great when in good condition. Only thing is I think the grey trim ages more gracefully, and looks more forgiving when worn. On a side note, my partner rode in my car today for the first time, and all he had to say was: "Hmmm, I can see why people like V8s now." |

Your reckon? From my experiences the tan does better, as it hides the dirt and doesn't fade into a strange green/grey like other soarers interiors do. Heheh, V8's are truly the best, I can't get enough of them hence why one of these 1UZ is going into my BMW mid year. |

| Yeah, I was thinking of my old Soarer. But I'm very paranoid about parking my car in the sun for extended periods etc, so that's possibly why mine never faded. - Are you sure the green/grey isn't the Spruce interior you're thinking of..haha Is your car an e36? That will really be something, I've seen videos of those with the 540i engine installed. The e36s are fairly light too. |

Yes, thats the name, it totally went out of my head. Spruce! Duh. Yeah old E36 Coupe, I didn't like them at all until I took this one for a drive back in December, sold my Soarer UZZ30 for it I enjoyed the drive that much. Yeahhhh if I had the extra dollars to spend I would use a BMW V8 M60 or M62, but they are a much more pricey way to go, electrics for one are somewhat complicated and well sourcing a manual Getrag gearbox for one is a not an easy task, hence why going down the 1UZ path, that much easier especially since I have worked on those motor many times. It shall be a neat car once its all done, but it wont be finished until around Spring I would imagine. |

| I look forward to it, I actually think the 1UZ is more interesting than sticking to the BMW hardware. Plus I've heard the VANOS system can be painful. |

I agree, I have spoken with a guy locally that did it to his (since sold the car for $14,000) so he has been a big help for sourcing all the various bits for the conversion. Some will scoff at a BMW with a Japanese motor, but at the end of the day it will be easy as maintain, reliable as anything and well easy to get more power out of. The 1UZ are stronger than the M60's anyway, plus far less likely to suffer compression loss, my last 540i had a cylinder that was beginning to loose compression through the piston rings/bore. Still going alright I hear from the new owner though. Bugger Vanos, great when its new but when its old, shudder. Just more crap to rebuild and fork cash out on. |

| Who cares what people think, individuality triumphs over badge allegiance. Also, I think those the later versions of that BMW V8 97+ were rumoured to have problems with the Nikasil bore treatment because of the high sulphur content in our fuel. Much the same as Jaguar with their pre-2000 V8s. |

| Yes the 540i's had this problem with the cylinder lining material, there was a recall on most cars though, where as the lining material was changed in the later models which did not suffer the problem. There is a way to identify the Lining type using the VIN Number I think. Other than that I would really like to own a 540i. |

Fortunately it was not much of an issue on areas with quality fuel. It was the sulphur in the American fuel in the 90's that killed the Nikasil lining of the bore. Quite sad, as BMW had to extend warranty periods drastically back then due to the wide spread problem. In New Zealand or Australia you have little to worry about as our fuel is fairly reasonable. I think the reason for one of my cylinders being a tad low was that it had 270,000kms and was 17 years old. But hey its still going strong I hear! I wouldn't rush to get a V8 one of those again though, rather a I6 535i. More easy to live with IMO. |

Hmmm more so leaning to the fact theres only one head gasket to replace! These sure ain't economical cars by any means today. Not that it worries me. |

| Probably no worse than any other manufacturer. At least they weren't denying the need for a recall like Fiat did recently, leading to 8 deaths. |
