Hi, I'm a new Soarer owner, just got it last week down from Sydney. I've been a Holden man for 20 years so there's quite a few unfamiliar things about this car, where's the best place to ask these? Can I just add to this thread later?

you can ask them here, pretty much anything goes in this thread, but you would be best to ask them in the category dedicated to that part, for the best chance of getting an answer. don't forget to do a search first to see if the question has already been answered. it is also normal to post some pictures of your car and a few details about yourself and your car. previous cars, why you bought it, modifications planned or already done etc. edit your first post and add them on so they are at the top of the thread.

I thought I'd better put some stuff about the Soarer rather than myself... I just received it last week. It came down from Sydney to here in Melbourne, got it put on a truck for $450 which I thought was pretty good, bought it on eBay and wanted to drive it back but owner said bad idea, so should have been more suspicious. Its a 2.5 TT and its black, so glad I found a black one coz they all seem to be white or green? I was a Holden man until 4 weeks ago when my hail-damaged Statesman got written off, and with the $ they gave me I couldn't afford to buy another one! The photos on eBay looked good but its rougher when I actually see it in front of me, so no photos for now! Interior is really nice. Mechanical is okay, 1 turbo might be dodgy, seems to drive alright, feels really different to a Holden V8, and I've had 5 of them in a row. One mod I really want is cruise control, plus I'm gunna disable some stupid beepers after reading the helpful tutorials on here.

What kind of statesman did you have? have anything done to it? I love them. I used to have a commodore and then got my soarer, and it is a big change, i would say a step up in many ways. Hope you car is worth what you had paid. $450 to get it here, thats good, thought itd be much more. haha i like the beepers.

It was just a common VR Statesman, only had LPG put on it, it had big wheels and good stereo so I left it alone, but I drove it 35,000km a year so it was ready to drop. Will a Soarer make it to 425,000km without major problems/rebuilds? I drove it interstate about 6 times too.

it would be interesting to find out, mine has done 260k with no major parts being replaced (original engine, turbos, gearbox, diff etc). if you maintain it well, I would say yes, but expect to replace the turbos.

Welcome to Soarer central Darren! On the subject of high milage cars, i've got a friend who used to have a VN commodore. The odo stopped working at 350,000 - easily have 400,000 now. He bought it at 300,000 and never serviced it. Only thing he ever replaced was the battery. Hope the soarer is a better car then the commodore you had. I can't stand the things! You made a good choice bud!

When I sit in the Soarer, which hasn't been very often since I've had it, I can tell its a much more refined car, it is almost overwhelming the attention to detail. Its a good thing I can read basic Japanese, there's lots of things still in Japanese. But yes I can tell there is something wrong with one of the turbos, especially when I start it up. Any experts in Melbourne???

I know what you mean about refined, the soarer has so many cool little details. a few of my favourites: a light in the glovebox that only works when the headlights are on, the readout of fuel quantity in litres, the dash, the windows working when the door is open and the key is out, TEMS suspension. and the build quality is superb. |

It's supposed to.. Well for the winding up function - same for the sunroof, if you open your door you should be able to close the sun roof.. |

I remember reading that theres a black wire on some orange plug that gets snipped, causing the windows not to work while the key is off. It is above the fuse box on the drivers side somewhere.

Drove my car properly for the first time last night. Its pretty rough. Hasn't got much oomph. Does 2300RPM for 100kmh sound about right?
