My name's Ric, I've been reading on here a while.

Great site.

Just picked up a 92 TT a couple of weeks ago.

There's a few things I want to do to it:

Currently has "coil overs" - I'm no mechanic but I'm told this is some kind of racing style suspension or something. I want to change it back to normal suspension / something to offer a smoother ride.

Any ideas how much this would / could cost?

Any recommendations for some more luxurious suspension?

Also, the front bumper (body kit) is cracked pretty seriously and needs some attention and a respray.

I also plan to reupholster some of the interior as a couple of the panels have developed small cracks.

Finally, a decent stereo and a complete respray, probably in gunmetal grey.

I think I got a pretty good deal on this car. The interior is stunning, it hardly looks like anyone's driven it. All electrics perfect, barely any wear and tear.

It basically feels brand new.

Much like the engine bay / response of the car.

The guy I bought it from used to have an importing business and this was his personal Soarer. At least that was his story anyway.

I paid $8000 and drove it over 1000kms home.

Purred all the way :-)

Let me know what you think about my plans / photos?

Kind regards,

- Ric

Nice Ric, that bodykit is called a 'barramundi style' another member on here called Vinh has the same kit, although the rear bar is a bit different, wheels look like Drift-teks or copies.

welcome mate. even the worst coilovers are better than the 20 year old airbags/springs.The ride is affected by MANY factors on the soarer.

With those tyres should be smooth as silk.
I run 20's and its smooth as silk even with those.

Check the rest of the suspension mate.
These affect the ride quality in order of greatest to least.(front and back)
Lower control arm bushes.
Sway bar bushes.
Shocker mount bushes (fronts have the bush in the strut)
upper control arm bushes.
Subframe /diff bushes
Sway bar link rods (just replace em cheap)
upper control arm bushes.

You should check em all out!

Thanks Gary, that sounds like good advice.

I'm not much of a car guy and I'm pathetic mechanically, so I'll have to pay someone to do all of that for me.

I have also been told that with such low profile tyres and with the car being low to the ground, such a hostile ride is somewhat inevitable.

"Smooth as silk" is what I'm after but to be honest, when driving it, I feel every single bump the road has to offer.

It's only enjoyable on that really black "new road" tarmac.

I will keep that advice and have a reputable mechanic inspect it for me.
