Hi guys, my name's Justin. Bought my 92 UZZ30 on wednesday, registered here thursday. Love the car, and it's been so kind as to give me something to fix already.
Seems like the power steering chose the day after I bought it to start making an awful noise, particularly when cold. At low speed it's louder than the rest of the engine. OH WELL, can't say I didn't expect it
I reset the ECU and built the first chamber of a BFI, it really hits its stride at about 100km/h. I've traded up from a 97 Liberty which had very nice handling, but... well, I bought that from my mum.
Terrible noise aside, it's a really nice, clean car, and everything aside from the dome light works. The keyring had a tag from Bond Auto Tech in Botany which I understand from lurking here is a good sign.
Anyway, look forward to getting to know you all. I've already had cause to pull over and hurriedly look up the meaning of a japanese warning message which turned out to be a patchy cable to the rad coolant level sensor, I'd still be worried if this forum wasn't here. It's great that there's such a community around these cars.

Justin.
Sounds like your P/S fluid could be low, air gets in and it makes a groaning noise. It can also happen if the oil is old and skanky, so start by doing a P/S fluid flush - there is a tutorial for it. Good luck!

Ahh, I'm working on Sunday. Next time, though. Just flushed the P/S fluid, hit a snag when the return hose disintegrated instead of disconnecting. Was a bit of fun and games to try to control the bleeding with wads of paper towel. Got the whole thing flushed in the end, though. The crap that came out was absolutely filthy. I'll be getting a replacement hose first thing in the morning so fingers crossed that it's problem solved. The tutorial made it look so eeeeeasy

Replaced the hose, flushed and reconnected it all, can no longer hear a thing from the P/S system. Sounds a lot better than it did even at the dealer. Perfect! Thanks Peter
