Just thought i would drop in an introduce myself. My name is Jake and i am the owner of a 1992 tt soarer. This is my 4th forced inducted car i have owned over the years, but this is my first tt and also my first right hand drive car. I am migrating here from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and now live in Sydney. As for the car not a bunch has been done too it performance wise, just a dual turbo back exhaust with 2 rather large cannons(i think thats what they are called here...you will have to forgive me for not knowing all of the car lingo here just yet),and a k@n pod filter. The exterior of the car is stock, except for jdm style tail lights and its sitting on 19x11 out back and 19x9 up front and has been lowered but i have no idea how much. The interior has been fitted with a boost gauge,a turbo timer, and a dvd player....tho i have no clue why i would need one. It has an after market gear knob,e-brake handle and now steering wheel(the stock one was a bit hammered when i bought it).And last but not least the wood trim has been painted a metallic silver and blue lights installed inside. Now my first question. about a week after i bought it it started to the left. SO Sunday i took it and got a 4 wheel alignment done and it has what they called a bad king pin angle on the right side and i was wondering what the experts think it could be? The left side is 7deg 12 min and the right side is 0 deg 12 min and i understand it should be closer to 9 deg tho the print out from the shop says 10.5. The car has 149000 on the clock. Any input on this would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks in advance, Jake.

Sounds like it was an extra in Fast and Furious. I've never had castor issues (what I am guessing they are meaning by "king pin"? on a car before - only time I've come across it is on a mates car when she ran it off the road and bent the lower control arm throwing one side of the castor angle out, which did cause it to pull a bit particularly if you weren't holding the wheel on exiting a corner. Replacing the control arm fixed it - anyway it might indicate some damage to the suspension - but if so the tyre shop should have picked it up.

How much should a lower control arm cost and where is a good place to get one? Thanks again, Jake.

The king pin angle (also referred to as KPI) is fixed and not adjustable. It is related to castor which is adjustable via the lower control arm. Sorry to say, but it does sound like it may have had a hit at some stage, or a bush or something has completely failed. I am surprised the wheel alignment place did not tell you what was causing it. Actually I retract that- It does not surprise me at all. I have never been impressed with the alignment "technicians" usually attached to a tyre shop. I would take it to a proper suspension place and get a safety check done- Pedders etc usually do a free or cheap safety check (because they then sting you for all the work it turns up). New control arms from Toyota will cost about the same as your car. Second hand, anywhere from $50. I have some sitting here, but freight would be a killer. There are a couple of guys who have wrecks closer to you who could help you out, but I would get it properly checked out first so you know what needs replacing. Check the forsale section

Hi Jake your soarer look's very nice i haven't seen to many that colour! I'm don't think pod's are legal in nsw unless you box them in. I am working on a standard airbox setup to suit my pipes so keep an eye out for that!

Greetings, Jake, and welcome to Oz. I have a friend on Facebook (well, long before Facebook, actually, we met through genealogy and a common ancestor from 1670) who lives in Provo. She noted a "night out raging" and a quick search evinced that there are very few bars in Provo Maybe Utahians have a different idea of what a "long night out" is

I just sacrificed the pocket under the dvd player and cut a piece of aluminum to fit then trimmed a piece of wood to fit snug in the pocket and drilled a hole in the gps mount. Finally screwed all 3 pieces together. I bought a power outlet and wired it up behind the stereo trim and brought the connected power cord out under the pocket.
