My story so far (prepare for novel length story): After hocking my n/a JZA80, I was on the search for something new (in hindsight, bad idea. Know what you want FIRST before you sell your only car. That's if you're young and poor, like me). I had a few criteria I needed filling for this new car of mine. They were: - Had to be boosted - Had to be manual, or at least manual conversion-able - Had to be hellaflush-able - And couldn't be serious cop bait, like a 180sx or S13/15, etc etc.
Oh and it couldn't look like a COMPLETE bucket of
Anyway my buddy pointed out a factory R154 manual VVT-i single turbo 1JZ Soarer on boostclassifieds months ago, but because I can be a bumbling moron at times, I didn't get it there and then. I thought Boostclassifieds = bogans and commodores, which = not worth looking at.
But, fast forward a few months up until last week, were I had booked an inspection on this specific Soarer by a 300zx forum guru (this friend is a 300zx-fag ). Got the results back and the conclusion was: definitely a goer. Comp test showed as close to, as makes no difference, 180 across all 6 cylinders. Which is good, if you don't know. Gearbox is great, paint is mint, infact the only downsides was that the (quote) "interior is ugly". Well it was a bit grotty as well.
So last tuesday, grabbed some cheap ass flights to Brisbane (which is where this thing was located) and my friend and I flew up on Thursday with the plan to bring it back down to Sydney. When we got to the mechanics, were it sat, my first impressions (which are very important) were as good as I could have hoped for! It WAS mint. Forked over 7500 (which as far as I can tell was a damn good buy) and left Brisbane at midday. The trip consisted of endless roadworks, talking smack about cars, and drooling over how well the car drives! It's a bit of a slug at the moment, with the only mods being a 3 inch turbo back exhaust, but the VVT-i model just 'swathes' you along. Finally, I ended getting back to my place at 4 in the morning. Fuuuuu-
My plans for the car include: slam (the Japanese way, not the very Australian method to get fat dump with King Lows.), boost to make nice power, and all-round performance (and looks) mods to make a fantastic, subtle(ish) uni car for when I start next year.
Got some HUGE wheels (think 12 inches) coming from Japan atm to complete the look ;) Full vertex kit is a probability further down the track as well (when I come off my P's). As for mine at the moment, here is how she looks:
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more awesome. }
Hey bud, nice ride. Just noticed, it has early model tail lights (91-93).
What size wheels are you going for? I had 9.5s on the rear, they'd sit even better with spacers. I love the hellaflush look as long as it's not too over the top, here's a good example.
I got some 18x12J and 18x9.5J Work Emitz on there way over as we speak from Japan.
I did have a look (nice wheels, they are), but I'm going to try fit these monsters. I'm looking into wheel rebarreling because I know the rears are just not going to fit without modifications...
I'm after a set of late model tail lights and a late model rear bar (because I believe mine has neither), because they just look better.
Other than that, the body is staying stock. Except from a front lip maybe. And what is that front bar in the picture you linked??
Yeah that's what I was thinking... why would someone downgrade the sexy 97 rear end to a 91-93 rear end...unless it's been rear ended, but having said that, I was rear ended at 40kph and the only damage was paint chipping on the rear bumper!
Yeah my buddy, the mechanic that checked it out, and myself couldn't find any damage under any of the trims. If there's no damage, it doesn't bother me if it has had a rear-ender. Infact I figured that myself.
The next step is to get some coils that will go to my level of low... can anyone suggest some coils?

welcome mate. looks like you might have scored yourself i prime example of a soarer. wether it be a 91 - 93 with a 97+ front end and fogs. or a 97+ with damaged repaired rear... either way you got a nice ride mate. great platform for modifying
