| Just got my self into a 1996 VVT-i 5 Speed in Mica Blue and looking to get some grunt under the bonnet. I had a worked 1jz non VVT-i block from my bro putting out 300odd rwkw but have decided to take advantage of this low km engine & the VVT-i head. Have a hell of a lot of planned mods hoping to do most with my tax return but first things first and that's to get it roadworthy and registered. Current set up is basically stock minus the HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer, and 3" Catback exhaust so nothing special. but I'll soon be trolling this site looking for bargains and best buys. Does anyone know of the max wheel size I can go on this? the 20's it came with are a joke (although look great in a real wog kind of way) and doing some serious rubbing over every bump. Maybe adjustable Tien coilovers or something raising it an inch? Below is a pic of my new baby.

Welcome mate! I've also just picked myself up a late model vvti, so i'll be doing some mods to that. You're welcome to follow my build. A good service is in order first, followed by getting a new dump pipe made up (removing that restrictive cat so close to the turbo) and getting an e-manage ultimate on it. It's already got a boost controller and FMIC. A Tomei M8280 ARMS turbo should get me close to 300rwkw too if I decided to go down that route.

ha ha, small world, in between phones at the moment just went through my 3rd iPhone! but will do when I get a new one. How do you find the Greddy FMIC? I was thinking of spending a little extra on a blitz system,as for the dump pipes I was hoping Exhaust Bro's could make one up for me. Wont bother with an exhaust manifold till I either Hi-Flow my CT15b or buy a nice Tomei or HKS unit with a manifold by the same manufacturer. I heard the VVT-i's & the stock ECU are not a fan of intake manifolds? Will a EMU overide this?

Hey Brent, the Greddy LS is a decent sized intercooler, though to be perfectly honest - anything is better than stock. I like that it uses the same route for the pipes as factory, so no cutting. I got Exhaust Brothers in Geelong to fit my exhaust. It's a 3inch into dual 2.5 with 2 resonators and mufflers. Still very quiet though but loud enough for me. Hypergear highflow the CT15b, that costs $1256, or there abouts - but you'll have the car off the road for two weeks (unless you can find a spare CT15b) I'm having Kurt Atzmuller make me up a dump pipe, as there are no off-the shelf dumps besides the HPI dump - http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19817&cat=276&page=1 As far as I'm aware not even Tomei or Hypergear make a dump for their Turbos so you'll need one made up. In terms of wheel size, I've got 19's and I'd go no bigger as they're almost rubbing with just me in the car (and rub when I have passengers) so I'd look at an 18, or roll your guards. I've never looked at changing the intake manifold, because from what I've heard there isn't much to be gained. The EMU won't override that, nor is it able to control the vvti (I don't care - Cihan is a gun, and will do an amazing job when the time comes for me to get it tuned) There are specific vvti controllers you can buy for this application, to be used in conjunction with an EMU. Maybe look at an exhaust cam + cam gear, as we can't change our intake cam unless we're willing to loose vvti.. Let me know when you get your phone running and the car rego'ed and ready for a drive. I'm in Manifold Heights just near Geelong West.

I think $650 is a fair whack for that too. It is stainless though. Joshua a rough guess on the price would be $300-350. Try and keep the price down as much as possible, i'll just be using mild steel but that'll be with a flex joint as well. Brent that is a tasty looking Soarer you have, welcome mate.
