Hey guys, my name is CJ and I'm from Melbourne!

Just paid deposit for a Lexus twin turbo automatic fully standard condition in green colour. As I just moved here from overseas, I could really use some help on the queries below;

First and foremost, thank you for your thoughts, views and contribution! My queries are;

1. Where can I reliably service my soarer? I live in camber well area.
2. Where can I get a quote for a full spray job? Am possibly looking at changing colour to my car.
3. Where do I find new parts or old parts like dashboard stuff, aftermarket absorbers, exhaust etc?
4. Where can I reupholster my interior to leather?

I'm also thinking if it's worth considering a full vertex kit. Am just a little afraid that it may be a little low for me. Anyone in Melbourneselling it ? I noticed so far most kits are from Queensland.

That's all for now, thanks for replies and looking forward to meet you guys one day!

Regards,
CJ

Hey Peter, I Paid someone a grand to do it. Honestly, I won't recommend it to anyone. The edges can peel off little by little where else some stains are difficult to remove. If you scrub to hard you might leave a permanent mark on it.

G'day CJ.

You can find parts in the for sale section. Someone is always wrecking something these days. Otherwise I have found for the price some people ask for second hand parts they are not much more brand new from Toyota (interior door handles for example)

As for the interior - give some thought to buying the leather interior out of a wreck. Leather was pretty common in these cars.

Hey Justin, oh man, you mean it doesn't look polished? I guess I've gotta work harder. Tried using meguires kit but didn't help much. Resulted to using a polish cutting compound which helped a little. Any other suggestions? Thanks mate!

Hey Ben, thanks for the info. Am looking for a spruce coloured drivers side door cards but haven't found any so far. I am considering buying a full leather interior as you suggested. Question is, are the door cards and dashboard leather too?

The seats, steering wheel and gear shifter were the only things available in leather and most of these were in the limited pack, the rest was the same between pov and limited apart from available options.

CJ maybe its just the light throwing your clean lights off..
I just used the turtle wax headlight polish, some have sanded the lights back and painted them with clear coat.. they look pretty damn good and i might have to do that to mine next.

Do you have glass high beams or plastic ones ?

For spruce door cards you could try Dean Rayner (in Heidelberg) on 0400005596 or Daniel from Import Nation 0423 296 014.

Service tips can be found here on soarer central, there's plenty of info and if you get stuck with something there's normally a few guys around to help out with info on here.

no worries Ben :-)

Dear Justin,

I guess the hard part is looking for the door cards :-) unless I swap it all for black which costs quite a bit.

Yes I have been in touch with import nation, but he hasn't come across any spruce door cards yet. Does dean have a shop? Or can I have the name of his shop?

The meguires kit comes with a sandpaper. Tried it but it didn't work. Not too sure what I'm doing wrong :-)

I'm not too sure if the high beams are plastic or glass? Does it make a difference?

Thanks for the info!

From my experience, Dean uses his place of work when collecting parts from him. So it's best to make contact with him first to sort out arrangements.

Regarding the high beams, it's a cosmetic difference. Glass will obviously always look shiny & clear compared to the dull, oxidized plastic units when upkeep is neglected. Though as Justin mentioned sanding & clear coating the plastic lens will have them looking new for time to come. But for the sake of $100-$150 for the glass beams, you save yourself the trouble.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the info on dean. Will definitely contact him soon. I can't really tell if mine is plastics or glass. 100-150 is to swap out plastic ones for glass if I do not have one? Are they aftermarket or do the whole assembly come of a specific soarer?

Hi CJ,

No problem. Regarding your high beams, it should be fairly obvious whether they are plastic or glass or not if you are to tap on the lens with your finger. Judging by your photo they look plastic on that angle, there is a distinct difference between the headlights & glass beams when fitted that you can tell by. And yes correct, between $100-$150 depending where you buy from will get you a pair of the glass units. They are indeed OEM & were released from '94 onward. They make a nice upgrade to the front end of the car.

Hey Michael,

I finally realised which lights you are referring to after scratching my head for some time. Due to the fact that I've never turned on my high beam while I'm outside of the car, never did I know that it was separated part from the main headlights. Yes mine are plastics and in the future I will definitely be looking at getting the glass ones.

In another, may i know what is the fuel consumption like for a TT? I'm really having horrible consumption in my opinion with a full tank of 91 going for around 460km when the warning lights come on. I do realise that I occasionally have petrol smell that I have no idea where it's coming from. Jacked the car up and did a walk around with my mechanic and there were no leaks to be found. Any idea what's causing horrible consumption? I'm not getting much difference from city driving to freeway. Possibly 20-30 km more on freeways?

Looking forward to your valuable replies guys! Thanks!

Forgot to mention that my car is stock standard other than an exhaust that came with the car. I heard some TTs doing around 550-600 city driving. Is that really possible? I drive like a granny most of the time like 90% of the time anyway

Was it running when you were looking for leaks. Have it running and check engine bay. Physically put your hand around hose clamps near injector rails. Be careful of your fingers. Start it from cold when doing this is best and watch the serpentine belt.

Hey Scott,

Should i be looking out for leaks coming out from the hose clamps area? what do i need to be looking for at the serpentine belt?

Thanks!

On a side note, might pay to give it a service while you are at it if you haven't already as well.

Things like the 02 sensor, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, oil change etc. Some (not all) of which can contribute to poor fuel economy. And relatively simple jobs which you can do yourself at home.

Peace of mind anyway on a newly purchased car knowing that things are fresh & not 10-20 years old since their last change.

You might also want to look into the condition of your engine ecu. There is a common problem with these in leaking and just old age caps, they should be replaced if it hasn't been done already. This will also cause poor fuel consumption.

On my v8 had a fuel leak near the injector rail. One of the rubber fuel lines that go into the rail has clamps on it. Tried tightening up the clamps but they would only spin. So the clamp was no good. Watch the best for your fingers if you have the car running. I couldn't actually see the leak but when I put my finger there it had a bit of fresh fuel on it.

My car was leaking fuel were the fuel lines exit the fuel tank under the car near the diff. I had to replace the copper washers and the rubber seals.

The rubber seals are the most important as the locating pin for the fuel lines is open to the fuel tank.

You also shouldn’t be running 91 octane.

Minimum is 95.

95 or 98 should help you to go past 500km to a tank.
