G'day guys and Gals,

Just rescued a 91 UZZ31 from a garage. Had been sitting for 2 years after being parked and forgotten. Looks good in and out. No battery connected for those years so there shouldn't be any damage electronically. Well that's what I thought.

After getting it home and popping a battery in it I found that only some electronics work while the IGN on. Interior lights come on, and door light on the dash comes on, it also bongs with the key in. But nothing else, no windows, mirrors, seats, airbags don't raise or lower (although the pump starts for a little bit as if it's priming). I've checked all fuses. Only fuse blown is the alternator in engine bay and I can't get it out. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I'll put up photos when I get home :-)

Got the ALT fuse out. Took a bit of wiggling, but she came. Will be trying to get replacement today from somewhere.

Hopefully that fuse is the source of the odd behavior and I don't get too many more elec issues.

Thanks, John.

That's one of the first things I checked before putting the battery in :-)

I've been lurking these forums (and others) for a month or so now, in preparation for getting this girl home.

When I get home this afternoon, while I've still got some daylight I'll chuck in the new fuse and cross my fingers. Also going to check the in-cabin fuses again just in case I missed one.

Should be an interesting Soarer project.

There are also two fuse blocks, engine bay for primary electrics and interior fuse box just above and to the side of the accelerator pedal.

It shall be interesting to see what the suspension does, have you had it raise up yet?

Hi Mike,

Should be very interesting and definitely a learning experience for a novice like myself. Have worked on Subaru's/Mazda's before, but nothing quite this unique.

Haven't had the suspension lift yet, but I am also yet to replace the ALT fuse and find a battery with the correct terminal position for direct contact, at the moment I've been using jumpers to connect the battery, thinking this could also be at play considering it's not a straight connection.

ALT fuse replaced. All electrics seem to be operational again, other than airbags. Does the engine need to be running for these to kick in? I'm running a 600CCA battery.

Engine running and door closed also helps to touch brakes for air computer to start compressor, just IGN for EMV to open , so what do you see on the screen ?? if blank touch it as it is a touch screen and may change mode

EMV is running while IGN on, was radio fuse 1 in engine bay blown. Now works absolutely fine, screen turns off after a minute or two though with a message in japanese, I assume this is to save battery as the engine isn't running? Radio still plays though.

Can hear the compressor start with IGN turned on and foot on brake. Will service it and kick it over this weekend and hope they come up.

Now that the dash lights up I can see that it has 133000km on it.

Thanks for all the help guys :-) Very happy so far.

Joel, I think what you are hearing with IGN on only , foot on brake is the nitro accumulator pumping up for the braking system , engine has to be running for the air suspension compressor to run.

Joel, the EMV switches off when feed in power drops to less than 11 volts, will be fine with engine running

Major service complete, bar serpentine belt and fuel filter yet (it still has 61L in the tank and I don't have a container big enough to drain it).

It now has rego and is allowed back on the open road.

I have noticed a problem though. After 5 minutes of driving the cat light comes on. It is very low on power and after the light comes in it hesitates a lot as if it's not firing on all cylinders. I've checked the alternator and power steering pump, no leaks. Only other options would be coils or Cats.

Joel If your car feels like its not firing on all 8, this would be the coils, there are 2 one is immediately visible and the other just below the cam gear plastic cover to your right. this could also could explain the cat light as the fuel would be burning in the cat and destroying it in the process. Chances are if it is the coils, then the cats have been fried, hence the cat light.

One of the symptoms of a faulty main ECU is overfuelling, have a look inside it to see if the caps are leaking

Found the coil lead on #2 coil had deteriorated.

Toyota have none in the country. Anyone got a spare they're willing to sell?

Mate, if I could afford a new set straight after Christmas, I would. Unfortunately it will be a few weeks before I can get that done.

All good though, Tom is helping me out.
