G'day from Adelaide. I'm new to the forum and i've bought a one-owner '92 Soarer GT-T from Queensland. Actually flew to the Gold Coast and drove it all 2,536 kilometers back home to Adelaide in two days. She had 242,071 on the clock when i picked her up, and going off the service sticker from when the timing belt had been done, had only done about 42,000 kilometers in the last ten years. She made the trip with little issue. I look forward to learn about maintaining, fixing, and modding from this forum. Matt.

And by little issue, i mean the wheels didn't fall off it until after i got home. The next morning i found quite a substantial oil leak coming from somewhere around the front of the engine and running all the way back, and thick black oil in the cold side intercooler piping when i removed it.

That's what i'm tracking down. Doing a full service on it including timing belt, even though it's got 44,000 on the current one, it is still a ten year old belt. Supercheap Auto sold me some 20w60 full synthetic oil yesterday and i am going to have to take it back. Been reading on here and 10w50 semi synthetic sounds more suitable for it. New to Toyota engines and turbochargers, so just doing my research before i stuff anything up.

Seems like a good idea to do the full service. I changed the belt on my daily driver JZZ30 even thought it didn't have any cracks.
I think I need to do a few other things, I have a noisy pulley on the front of the motor and a few of the seals could do with a replacement as they're leaking. My turbochargers oil seals are possibly gone too, as sometimes they smoke but not when the car is moving. Little bit to get your head around but it's all fairly straight forward.

Soarers are great cars and can give you plenty of hours of enjoyment if they are maintained correctly. Have a read around here on what you should look out for, check the coil pack clips, get the ECU recapped if it hasn't been done, could be your cam seals or cam cover seals leaking, also check the cam sensors as they can leak oil.
There's plenty of options and little upgrades that you can do to make it your 'Soarer' and drive the way you want it to.

Yeah, i found it was the intake cam seal that was leaking, so have replaced the front main and cam seals, a new set of lightened pulleys because why not, belt, and cam cover gaskets. Going to repaint the cam covers as they have bubbled and oxidised a bit, while i wait for coil pack connectors to arrive as i broke almost every one changing the spark plugs, and i figure i might as well match the colour to the pulleys.
I've got an idea of performance work down the line, so i'll be having a dig before i post anything in the TT Mechanical section.
