Gday guys,

so im not a current soarer owner, but a previous owner. just wanted to ask a quick question about personal import. I'm currently driving a modified RX7 and wondered what chance I have to bring it back to Oz with me?

series 6 5 speed twin turbo
has aftermarket TEIN coilovers (about 10cm off the ground)
full 4" exhaust (ridiculously loud but has loudness adjusting valve)
twin plate ORC clutch

I know the suspension and exhaust will have to be swapped to get past inspection but will i have to change the clutch too? its a twin plate so its pretty noisy when the clutch is pressed

if your bored at work, for your viewing pleasure, plz check out my webpage

life in japan is tough ;)

Geez mate, looks like you've done a fair bit of travelling lately. I think you have to be in Japan (and own the car) for at least 12 months or something like that, before you can bring it in as a personal import. Are you gonna be there that long? Not sure about the mods you can have on it though.

yeah, 12 months registered in japan is required. I thought only the new laws (SEVS or RAWS I forget) had to get the car back to standard so therefore a personal import could just be bought over and complianced.

If you can show proof of ownership and that you were actually in Japan for 12 months or more you can bring it in as a personal import. You will still need to get approval, but will not need to get it complied. A pit inspection in your state of registration will be required to get the car registered and the car will need to conform to ADR specs.

If I wanted to emigrate to Oz from NZ, I can bring our Soarer as long as we've owned it 12 mths. or more, and all we have to provide is a cert., to say that the A/C is NOT filled with R12, and that's pretty much it. Don't have to fit new rubber, and pretty much don't have to do anything else.......BUT, this may only apply to Kiwi's, due to the C.E.R. bollocks. It might be tougher for other countries of origin

You'd need to have 'cats' fitted as well if like me you had them removed.
That's correct isn't it Don.

Thanks guys,

im going to be here for next two years so thats not a problem. i know the rules on the importing part, just worried that ill have to spend too much on getting it back to factory just to get it through the local pit ;(
in that case ill just sell it before i leave
guess my main concern is the clutch...?
suspension ill def. have to change, exhaust i can do a quick swap

Daniel, co slchac? dzienki za informacje ;)

Dave: No you do not have to change your cats.

You are allowed to keep the same old Moggy's that your car was born with .

Alan: No, not at this stage. Which, I realise isn't overly diffinative, but we shall see, said the blind Moa!

Ignore me, I have had one to many already!

Alan: Nah mate, I'm far from sober. I've got about 2.5" to go on a 750ml Jim Beam............

Problem is, I think I'm getting so used to it, that it dosen't affect me too much!.
