Hey guys, I currently imported my Silver 91' auto TT from Japan. Everything is stock, Except it has some fat tires and BBS rims, Razo turbo timer, one fog light that works, and thanks to decals and signs a little bit of rice. heh anyways, Just wanna say "Hi", and look forward to getting more great advice on this beastly machine. Thanks to this site, i was able to reset my ecu last night! that was fun, and i'm planning on doing my BFI tomorrow. Wish me luck. p.s. I'll get some pics up soon Joey

G'day Joseph, That TT will be a bit of a handful to drive over there very shortly I bet. Mines bad enough just on wet roads, let alone icy.

Heh, wet roads, It rained last night... So off with traction control and have fun... Joseph, where in Alberta do you live? I'm in Edmonton. How much of a difference did the ECU reset make?

Never mind the where in Alberta thing, I didn't see the title of your thread. Where in Edmonton? There's another member here that's moving to edmonton sometime. We're starting to get a few Soarers.

Oh I know, I will at some time or another but right now time is something I don't have. The last week has pretty much been coming home from work at 11:00 or so at night then go to bed, then wake up and go to work all over again. Hopefully work will slow down for a while so i can spend some of the 'car' money that i've been earning.

Just pull over on the way home at night, pop the fuse for a couple of minutes then see how awake you are for the rest of the trip home

Hmm. sounds like a good idea. I may have to try it sometime if i can wake up while on the highway. Last night was interesting after the rain, now it might be even more fun.

Ya the Ecu reset was loads of fun, i did it around 11 pm when it was nice and dark having to use my cell phone as light around the fuse box ;). lol But I think it made a drastic difference, and so did my gf that was in the car at the time. It only idle'd funny for about 1 minute after i did it. and then everything was back to normal... well, better than normal! And Scott i live around whyte ave, now just dont come steal party from my soarer now ;)! lol jk. We'll go cruzing sometime. Anyways off to attempt the homemade BFI!

So when did you get your TT? Scott. And ya, its not going to be fun driving this in the winter. But I'm sure i'll manage, i used to drive a 66 mustang(R.I.P.) in the winter. So im sure, this'll be a walk in the park. Hopefully. Last winter i had my 86 rx7, which was light as a feather, i remember one day getting stuck 8 times just in a mall parking lot where it wasn't that deep. Lol, i let that go for 400$ once my soarer came.

I got the Soarer on September 1 and i got it inspected, passed and registered last friday. I am going from a 1/2 ton cargo van to the soarer so i'm used to sliding around in the winter. No weight in a van and RWD on a V8.

255's lol, and some BBS rims, which I cannot remove! since i just found out that one of the lug nuts has a steal prove thread on each rim. So I dunno i had to work around it, i just hope i never get a flat! I just did my BFI time for a test drive. The hardest part was removing the back of those darn head light screws with the pipe leading to the intercooler in the way. Sheesh..

My GS300 came with security nuts, but no key. My trusty local mechanic removed them by carefully chiselling off the loose sleeve around the nut, selecting a single-hex impact socket which was slightly smaller than the locking nut, and hammering it on so it made its own flats. Alternatively, you should be able to find a tyre shop which has a "proper" removal tool for the locking nuts. |

Haha, If you read my G'day thread Joseph you'll know that i have wheel locks on too. (I'll get you for that Peter ) There is the possibility that your car doesn't have traction control, The switch is forward of the shifter and slightly to the left. Do you have 255 rubber all the way around or just rears? I'll be doing the ecu reset sometime this evening, and hopefully BFI this weekend. I've been working 12-16 hour days for the last week or so, so i haven't had time to do anything to the car. Rain again last night Except with wet roads there is no purpose in even hitting turbo while in 1st, you have to wait till 2nd otherwise all you do is spin.

When the roads get slippery, try putting ECT=Power and starting in 2nd gear. It is supposed to lock it so you don't get first at all, very nice for slippery starts in the V8 at least. Some Soarers still go back to first if you boot it hard enough, I don't think anyone has worked out why some do and some don't.

I drive around with ect and power all the time, is that a bad thing? if i take it off and leave it on normal will i loose traction? lol and just above those buttons theirs a red one with japanese writing, i cant figure out what it does. and their is nothing beside the shifter on the left that says trac ... sniff.

That red button is so you can get the car into neutral without turning it on. Press red button, press button on shifter and move it to wherever you like.

no traction isn't a big deal, most of the time i turn it off anyways Except it might come in handy during the winter if you're driving the soarer year round. So 255 rubber all around Joseph or just on the rear?

ECT = Power is a bit badly named. Theoretically it raises the gear change point a little except under WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and can make the suspension slightly firmer on some models. On my Sports V8 (some call it the pov pack) the only difference I notice is the ability to lock 2nd gear. As mentioned above, it's great for take offs on slippery roads and for serious hills hooning where you don't want the car to suddenly jump back to first and lose the back end. There is a video floating around on the Net of a Supra (I think) doing wheelies in a car park, the car drops to first, the wheels spin, the back goes around, then it kicks to 2nd and launches into a spectator.

on my TT it seems that ECT=PWR makes the suspension a bit firmer, maybe i'm crazy but that's what seems to happen. it does hold the rev a little higher on gears. but not a ton.
