Hi guys, i ran my car at calder and was happy with my results, but now the car started to play up again.
As i put my foot down, it starts to pop in the high rev range, and it starts to clag.
It feels like a fuel problem.
Now please if any one has any idea with whats wrong, please reply back.

Your going to have to go through the coil packs to get to the plugs, so if the coil packs look fine, then check the plugs.
Good luck

I had the same problem on my 1j and after regapping spark plugs, checking coil packs, it ended up being a blocked fuel filter. This can happen mostly if you have run it below a quarter tank and its picked up a bit of gunk from the bottom of the tank. Does it feel like if you accelerate mildly at a constant rate its ok, but when you put your foot down it just pops and farts all over the place!? haha it almost feels like its starving for fuel rather than losing spark

Yes that's exactly rite, it accelerates ok at a constant rate, but when i put my foot down it just pos and farts all over the place.

What could it be because i already serviced my car and changed my fuel filter about a month ago.

But i still haven't had the chance to check my coil packs or spark plugs yet.

try your spark plugs first, re-gap then and se if that works, and check your coils at the same time. Then work from that. When i checked my plugs they were all over the shop

Peter;
get the car on a dyno
or some were that can check your air fuel ratios
do this after you do your plugs and have check your coils.
some poping can be lean fuel pops and that isn't a very good thing....
cheers

Peter,

Use NGK BKR6E's gapped to .8mm and see how that goes :-)

With your mods, I wouldn't be going down to .7 just yet....

which spark plugs have 0.7mm gap without re-gapping 0.8mm one?

I had popping and back firing, i took it in to Toyota and had them give me answers. Popping cleared after replacing the throttle position sensor there diagnostic computer picked it up.
And backfiring was cause by faulty boost controller solenoid on old profec b, causing it to over boost and boost cut. Since new PBspec2 and haltech intercepter runs sweet.

also backfiring blew out my cat, and is very bad for turbo wheels so its not advised to drive hard until the problem is fixed.

Wai, you will have to regap the plugs. they dont make ones with a .7 gap. Thry have a .8 or a 1.1 in the BKR6E's.

Hi guys,

I re-gapped my spark plugs to 0.8mm, checked my coil packs and seemed fine to me because there was no cracks.
Took the car for a spin and it didn't pop but was hitting boost cut even though i've got no boost controller connected.
So, i'm guessing one of my actuators is stuffed causing it to over boost by shutting longer than the other one.
Now its popping again, what else could be the problem??
I am going crazy.

Maybe your exhaust has very little restriction and is allowing it to overboost? When I fitted twin dumps and panned it up hills etc it would hit boost cut from time to time.

Fit up a fuel cut defender and see how you go. You can make your own for about $2. Just need 2 diodes and a variable resistor, or even just a zener diode. There is a circuit for it on toymods.
