I just had mine powerflushed, but the guy before me must have maintained that really well too as next to no crap came out and when I did the water pump (apart from the squeaky bearing) it was flawless inside. No pitting or corrosion at all.
My old soarer had the water pump replaced in the 100,000km service. When i pulled it out it looks like the propeller is made of white plastic?
Does everyones look like that?
The replacement i bought from toyota was a 2J one with a metal prop.
I dont think the new car has had the water pump replaced. shall i pay the money to get it done as its already had the timing belt replaced 7000kms ago...? Which means the timming belt has to come off again! BUGGER!
My timing belt is looking a bit worse-for-wear so i'm having it replaced next week. Is it worthwhile replacing my water pump at the same time?
The car has done "78,000 km" and i haven't had any probs with the water pump as yet. It seems like failing water pumps are a common problem with 1jz's though???

Michael, if you read some of the ALSC posts its almost mandatory to change your water pump when you are changing the timing belt, for two reasons. 1. The water pumps seem to last about 100Kkm. The same as the timing belts. 2. If you change the water pump after the timing belt, you have to do 100% of the same work over again. ie; the belt has to come off and back on etc. Change the water pump while your there, unless its only done 20,000km (highly unlikely). I don't think its a common problem, its probably more like well designed and well timed wear and replacement for both items.

plus everything is now 10 - 15 years old. Sorry, off topic a bit, i'm doing all that on a v8, does anyone know where the engine block drain for the cooling system so that i can drain and flush it all.
Block drain is on passengers side, beneath the exhaust manifold. Not that easy to get at.
I didn't bother with it, hooked a garden hose into the heater hose and flushed through heaps.
After draining from the radiator, I put some demineralised water through it to hopefully displace all the tap water.
Knowing there would still be water in the block, I added enough coolant to make it 50% strength allowing for the capacity of the system (I used the concentrate), then topped it up with more demineralised water.
I don't suppose anyone knows if the soarer and JZX90 water pumps are the same model? A part number here would be very helpful.
C-red went to order a water pump for my car through a toyota dealer in perth and was quoted $1200. This apparently included the hydraulic assembly in front of the pump but they were unwilling to separate the two. Previously in this thread someone mentioned that they got one for $180 through a Toyota dealer! Does anyone have any suggestions as to why there is such a massive difference???
Any advice here would really be appreciated as I don't want to spend $1200 on a water pump.
