Hi guys, I am upgrading my turbos to the HKS T3G soon. And the problem is; what ecu can i use to run with my auto?? I know some of you will say just use an e-manage, but i don't want to use a piggy back. It won't give me the same results as a tuned ECU would because of the options that come on ECU. You know what i mean. So please if any one is using an ECU, please let me know what it is and how good it is with a tune??

Adaptronic are doing some good stuff on the V8s. They are relatively cheap for a stand-alone and the people are keen to help. Their ECU could be integrated with something like the Suprastick very easily. If you want to write your own maps and stuff this is a good way to go.
If you want to stick with semi-factory then Mines or similar. Toms would be preferable if you can get one, with all connecting cables programs etc. They still make the later stuff (VVTI engines etc) and maybe one of them would be modifiable to suit.

If you want to do it el-cheapo then the factory made stand alone engine and auto ECUs for some of the 7M series. Some Crowns etc use them too. This will control an A340 but may need help with the lock-up clutch.

I run a powermod piggyback ecu, so my auto is still fully controlled by the factory computer. I ran a 12.4 on wednesday and its consistently made the power for the last 6 months since I went single turbo, but I've had the powermod now for a bit over 2 years, so it can work with an extensive modification path.
Also what sort of result are you after? Do you want full logging, laptop tunable, upgradable?

You can use any ecu if you manualise the auto with MV box or suprastick.
If you want full auto though, you are limited in options.
I would just manualise it and my choice of ecu is Microtech. As close as you will get to plug and play compared to a lot of other ecus. Easy to tune. Makes good power.
Otherwise, I would go for the powermod.

You can pretty much run any standalone ECU Peter, there are people on this forum who run microtechs, Wolf 3D's, Power FC's, Autronics, I mean the choice is endless in the end, it all really goes down to how deep your pocket is. You would have to also consider then, when you choose your stand alone setup, are you willing to spend another 3K to get your auto fully manualised?? Because there is no stand alone ECU out there that will control the auto, unless again you go down the path Richard did and get a suprastick V4 to control your auto.

Just a question on the supra stick v4.
How many people have them on their car around here?.
Where do you hook them up to. I was reading on the supra stick website and they say connect them to the cruise control and you shift up and down through there. I was wondering if I could connect it to my steering wheel. (see pic).
Also I have read about chucking on a supra stick and then putting in a shift kit. What will be the purpose of this? Will the transmittion itself take less time to engage gears?. That will be a awesome combo. Supra stick and 1.5 shift kit. Might need good treads on the tyres though as it might be dancing on ice all over again.
And another thing. When you get the supra stick how do you know what gear you are in ( do you just count) and what would the dash say. And another thing. When you change the ecu does it affect the dash at all.
Sorry for the major hijack. I have done a bit of searching and didnt want to bump up 6 month old threads. Just wanted to clear some things up.

Thanks guys for your replies. So there's no stand alone ECU out there for an auto. I know this guy has a fully manualised auto in his soarer, has this module that tricks the ECU to make it think its a manual to run a power FC. And, I am not too sure about this suprastick V4 everyone is talking about, what does it do?? I'm sorry its because i've never heard about it before.

There's a version of the Power FC that can do it all. There is also a local (kdog) supplier of a kit similar to the suprastick. It has a readout for which gear is chosen. It won't run as a full auto though.
I reckon a 1.5 shift kit is too much for a street car. The standard 'soft' stage one kit is still capable of good performance and is driveable and comfortable when not being pushed hard.
