got a prob with my tt. engine electrical warning light stays on and car now misses, backfires and doesnt rev through, it feels like a fuel/air problem, but not sure what. i broke my harmonic balancer the day before this happened and got a new one, would this be to blame?? car is running 12psi, cat back exhaust, pod.

Tried the cam belt tensioner? I had the same issue after I did my water pump, electrical warnings and the car ran like complete crap, if at all! Turns out the timing was sooooooooo far out coz the belt had jumped a few teeth, and kept jumping. The poor mans vvt-i perhaps?

If it were a V8 i'd say cam or crank angle sensor. Diagnostics may help but not if it's an ECU fault because then the alarms given are not necessarily real. It does sound a bit like the relatively common ECU fault.

the cam belt tensioner sounds like youre on the money, cause she ran fine before the balancer went so i thought it may have something to do with that, but didnt know how. thanks ill check it out.

If it is a belt or tensioner problem then you should be getting cam angle sensor alarms. If the engine electrical alarm you are getting is a cam angle sensor then a link in the diagnostics connector will tell you on the dash if it isn't a pov pack dash. If it is then you have to do it the hard way and count bulb flashes to get the codes.
Personally I would bet that in light of the previous balncer problem, it is the belt jumped a tooth or two.
