Hey all, fairly new on here, haven't posted much as I have been researching all the old topics.
One thing that i couldn't find is anything on turbo chatter.
I bought my car as a work in progress and it has a Hybrid T3 Single turbo in place of the Twins, a 38mm Wastegate, Front mount IC and a pod filter.
Basically everytime i take my foot off the accelerator it chatters really loud back through the turbo (which i've heard is not good) and through the filter.
I have no BOV on the pipes anywhere to or from the Intercooler.
On my previous car all i had to do was wind back the spring/piston on the BOV to eliminate the chatter, but i have not had much experience with Wastegates. Is it basically the same thing?

Therein lies the problem, you are getting compression surge and this is obviously really bad for the turbo.
The inertia of the spinning turbine, and the continued flow of exhaust gasses, continues to compress the intake air but not the the throttle plate has closed there is no place for this compressed air to go except to 'bounce' back through the turbo in reverse causing the turbine to come to a violent and shuddering halt.
The blow off valve will allow this compressed air to release and vent rather than reversing and smacking your turbo about.

Looks like he has a single now so should be all new piping. Plus he says that he has no BOV anywhere on the compressor side of the turbo to the throttle body.

Cheers thanks Scott.
I'll look at getting one this weekend. if not then next week definitely.
Anyone got any recommendations on where to Fit the BOV? I would tend to have it close to the throttle body as per my old car. but i know there are different opinions on this...

BOV and wastegates are two differnet things. BOV is as stated above. Wastegate sits on the exhaust side of the turbo that opens up to allow exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine when a certain level of boost is reached, in order to prevent overboosting...

i got my bov welded into place after the cooler and just behind the front right (as you look at it) air scoop, so its kinda hidden yet still scares young children

I just realised, what does this turbo chatter sound like? Because I know my car makes some odd noises sometimes, But I have been told it is just POD filter noise when the Throttle body closes. Makes a kinda CH-CH-CH-CH-SSHHHH noise.

Soarers have a stock BOV that is more audible without the airbox, thats the sound you hear and is nothing to worry about. I think turbo flutter is different again. Sounds like a pigeon haha.
