If its possible i would get someone to start / drive it ever 2 weeks or so.

I have heard of people lifting their cars onto jack stands if there going away for more than 2 months to take the pressure off the wheels and suspension.

Make sure you get someone to start it once a week and leave it idling for 10 mins.

Yep, I'd go with Neil's idea. As long as you aren't afraid of losing any settings with your head unit or anything, then disconnecting the battery shouldn't be detrimental in any way.

I'd do an oil change once you get back though.

Mines been off the road 3mths before, When i know its gonna be off the road i generally try and get the fuel around 15litres. That way i can put fresh fuel in when its back on the road.

FYI - once you return it's the best time to do an oil analysis.. the contaminants have settled right down in your sump so if you intend on dropping the oil once you return, then get it tested it'll give you an accurate reading on how much iron (ppm) is in your oil..
then....

next oil change after that do the same thing and compare the rate of wear to see if your engine is healthy..
