I'm in need of a new clutch fan for my TT. What options do I have?

I read that the clutch on the 1JZ-GTE is interchangable with the 2JZ-GTE. But I have a feeling that those parts will be pretty expensive to buy straight from Toyota. Is there any aftermarket clutch fans that will bolt in? Or does anyone know the sizes/specs of it - so I could look for one?

Also, if anyone has a clutch fan that they are selling can they please contact me? I don't need the fan blades, just the clutch. I don't really wanna put second hand parts in, but if the price is right then it may be the best option.

Thanks

Tate, The 2JZ-GTE has a different part number to the 1JZ-GTE, so dunno whether it'll fit

The 1JZ-GTE one is part number: 16210 - 88400 (5/1991 - 8/1996)

Thanks Don.

I've recieved a quote for a brand new fan clutch for the 1JZ-GTE (using the part number listed above). It's pricey. So if anyone can tell me wether the 2JZ-GTE fan clutch can be used it would be really appreciated, seeing as finding second hand ones from that engine is a bit easier.

I have used a 2jz-gte fan clutch on my 1jz-gte. All I had to do was swap over the fan blades. As the 2j ones hit the radiator shroud.

I've had a few people tell me that it may just be the viscous oil inside the clutch that needs replacing. My mechanic said that he wouldn't do that for me and I'm a bit weary of doing it myself - anyone know how hard it is for a n00b?

Anyway, if it's too much of a challenge I'll just go with the second hand 2JZ-GTE hub onto my existing fan. Thanks a lot for the info - hopefully it will help others if they encounter the same problem down the track.

Hmm... alright, I have a new one.

I've put new oils into my clutch fan, and it didn't seem to have much of an effect. Because I thought I may have done it wrong, I went and bought a second hand part, and chucked that in - still got the same problem. I'm pretty sure the bearings on the clutch are good because it spins nicely. So i'm thinking maybe this isn't the problem?

My car still overheats in stop-start traffic. After about 15mins of city driving the coolant will be boiling and steaming out of the overflow tank. Can anyone else think of what the problem could be? It's not a coolant leak, but maybe a blockage somewhere... but where do i look? Or any comments are more than welcome!

Thanks again for the help.

Blocked radiator, stuck thermostat, leaking head gasket. Pick one (hopefully not all three!)

sorry for the thread mine, but this is the closest info I could find by searching...

I just did my 100,000km service - timing belt, tensioner, pulley, cam & crank seals, water pump, hoses, balancer, drive belt and idler bearing. But I discovered I also need a new viscous hub for the fan which has a noisey bearing. I can't find one aftermarket for the JZZ30 and Toyota want $734!!! (Part No 16210-88400). Can anyone confirm Grant's info above that the 2JZ-GTE hub fits? Must be from JZA80 Supra because Aristo had a hydraulic setup... I can source them aftermarket for about $150. Just a bit of a gamble based on one reference on the interwebs... Might have to go thermos rather than risk wasting money on the wrong part.

Noisy bearing ? Bearing noise would be water pump or pulley noise elsewhere IMO .

When the clutch fan starts failing , it locks up and doesn't disengage when revved , very noisy fan wash sound .

we've tested it and its definitely the bearing in the fan hub, not the brand new GMB water pump or the brand new tensioner pulley bearing.

has anyone here ever replaced their fan hub?
