I use a Mallet & Flathead (TM) brand cat on mine. Outflows everything in the known universe, including Unobtanium type converters. I hear that the Starship enterprise also use these, and are able to pull low 9's @ Warp 99. (They are having trouble selecting the right size converter).

But like everyone else said,

The Dump pipe is the real culprit.

Final question; anyone used the dump pipes available on ebay ? It looks very similar to Lew's , just a bit shorter...

Much cheaper but I am wondering about quality?

Is Lew's the one to get, nothing comparable for a lower price ? I mean 800 bucks is a bit steep. I work for money.

My brother in law is a welder, he said he can make it approximately right in about 4 hours give or take. He would up about 2 of them , then he would get the 3rd right he said.

Thanks allot!

And Lew makes those dumps which should sell for $1,000 beacause they take him 2 days labour to make.

So $800 is pretty good. Dont forget, they are 2 seperate pipes which join up.

Cool; thanks all. I will most likely buy Lew's headers ( I might check out the ebay ones just to have a look, they are in Melbourne and I can see them ), a Metalcat Cat ( not preowned )and will make up the rest somewhere in a shop.

Marius, you'll find most of people here will recommend you to go for Lew's dumps :-) Don't forget you'd also need the midpipe, last time I checked Lew was selling it for 150 bucks, order both at once and save on postage :-)

It seems quite short compared to Lew's. You'd need an extra piece of piping to connect it up to the midpipe. Also no seperate pipe for the wastegate. How much is this one?

Personally?
Dont look like the best design. DONT have seperate pipe for each wastegate. Welds dont look the best. Look like they would crack easily.

You pay for what you get, and i wouldnt pay much for those, let alone use them.

Try not to think of some things expensive. Think of it as an investment. And DUmp pipes are at least 8 hours of Hard labour for someone whom knows what they are doing. So its not just the outlay, but whether they will last and if you want to pay someone 8-10 hours of labour to reinstall another set if these do crack.

My 10cents worth!

I was quoted 8 hours removal and fitting by UAS here in Sydney. That was to fit Their Dumps.

Which i have seen and would flow alot better than stock. But i like the look of Lew's better!

Thats funny, Lew is a Sponsor, and everyone with brains uses his dump pipes.

Have a look at the crap welding on those pipes you posted, almost looks like stick welding. Pipe is too short, perhaps designed for a different car (A70? Cressy? Chaser?).
There have been cases of these dump pipes (the one you posted which is currently available on ebay @ $230) not mating up correctly to the CT12a turbos.

Lew's (one of the site sponsors, in case you forgot) dump pipes are awesome, the welding is immaculate, and the wastegate gasses are separated. They mate up to the front pipe without modification and the gains are up there in terms of $$ per HP.

Look for what its worth, Lew, Jeff, Neil, The Malkins, Aaron Klaver and the others that I have forgotten are all SOARER enthusiasts. They know their cars, and are a valuable resource. I've bought stuff from all these guys at one stage or another. Ask anyone on the forum about our them, and they'll vouch for them 100%

Plus, Lew's dumps come in two pieces too, makes it heaps easier to install that way. I haven't got a pic on me, but I will post it for comparison purposes when I get home tonight or tomorrow morning. You'll see the difference is worth paying extra for :-)

I email-ed Lew through the web site , no replies in 36 hours; how do you get in contact with him ? I need to do this primarily as my cat is busted and is leaking now.

So I need it rather soonish, the car is my only drive to work and back ...

If I am to do it, no point in just investing and welding in a cat of any sort, might as well do it all properly

Thanks for you advice all

You can't see, but behind there is a seperate pipe for the wastegate that joins back later, you can sort of see on the flange where the turbo gets bolted on.

At this point in time you might want to also consider upgrading your turbos to steel wheels, if you're already replacing your dumps, will save you doing the same stuff again when your stock ceramics go bust (and they will, only matter of time). Labour to replace the dumps/turbos is roughly a grand...

Nah, I will take it one at the time; Plus steel wheels = lag land ( or so I know from what I have driven so far with steel wheels ) , I don't want more lag, I drive it mostly to the city, I want to still be able to run WRX's and Mazda R8s from the lights :-)

Thanks for all your advice, now if I can get Lew to reply to my email to start on those pipes would be great...

Yeah fair enough. I haven't properly boosted mine yet, as it is not tuned, but you can compensate for the lag with higher boost though which is what I will do, that will more than compensate and you'll beat the RX8s and WRX's easier too :-)

Plus if I want to boost I must also purchase a proper ECU/boost controller, and that means not only turbo upgrade but also new ECU, tunning. It could stretch to 4000 dollars easily ...

Haha. Yep, my gf has no idea how much I've spent on the upgrade. She just thinks I was fixing stuff, changing bearings on the turbos, she has no clue. The thing is, what she doesn't see, she doesn't need to know about, ie:

Steel wheel turbos second hand: $1700
Dumps and midpipe : $ 930
Cat (yet to be purchased) : $ 330
Gaskets, bits and pieces : $ 250

So here's $3210 worth of mods that she doesn't see lol! She'll only get to see the SAFC and boost controller, so that's like 800 bucks hmmm, I can explain it is a very cheap mod for a lot of performance gain!! Bargain!!!

Oh, I don't lie in a relationship, it's just a way for me to live in peace and quiet I'd be killed too if she ever finds out!! There you go folks, you can now hold me at ransom over this information
