When you go to crank the motor, can you hear the click of the solenoid?

It is in a c#nt of a location, not a job for the first timer or faint hearted. Left of the block, between the motor and box, bout halfway down.

the motor is not turning over no click or nothing. the car was starting as if it had a flat battery the last couple of days then it just didn't start, tried 3 different working batteries and same thing. Did a search here and found that a few people had the same problem as me and turned out to be the starter. Is that the location for the TT or v8?

Could your car still think its in gear?

Give the shifter a push forward so make sure it knows its in Park. Then try starting it.

Of course this only will work on an Auto.

If it is getting progressively worse, or in your case already has, then my money is on the starter, as I have had the same problem.

That location is for a TT, I would strongly not recommend you tackling this on your own unless you are 110% confident with it.

Current one can be rebuilt. But its cheaper to get a 2nd hand from a wreckers.

I picked up a 2nd hand one for $100

Anyone got a photo or diagram of where the starter motor is?

Don't have a pic, but you have to be under the car to see it good.

I found it, gave it a few hard knocks with the hammer and the car started. Turned it off then tried again and it started again. Its definitely the starter that's playing up, ill be replacing it this week hopefully.

In the old days that used to mean the brushes were on the way out (I think!). I may well be wrong as I'm talking from my Mini driving days a decade or so ago. In them things I never bothered getting parts rebuilt as spares were literally everywhere. Pull out U/S part and replace with newer item. Meant that I never actually found out what caused the problems though...

A 7M starter may fit too. Also might need to just simply fit a starter motor relay.
