Hi all,
I've got an interesting one. Recently, I've noticed a rattling/scraping sound when the engine is between 1800rpm and 2200rpm in any gear.
The noise is now quite loud and it's coming from either the transmission or the cat (in that area). It sounds like a tin can spinning and scraping (hollowish). The noise isnt repetitive and as soon as you accelerate over the rpm range it's gone.
Both turbos are still fine and i've not lost any power.
I've got an auto and I get the noise in every gear (even reverse, L and 2) so I think it's my transmission. If I rev it to 2000 in Neutral I hear the sound but it's not as bad. The noise will drop in and out.
Does anybody know of anything that might take place mechanically around the 2000rpm range?

pop under the car and give the exhaust a bit of a bang, and see if the noise is coing from your cat heat shield. Quite often what happens is the welds on the shield fail, and it rattles against itself at certain frequencies.
