The turbos on my tourer v are a LOT louder than the turbo on my 180. I've had one person suggest that it could be caused by an imbalance in one or both of the turbos?
Obviously you can't really diagnose the problem (if there is one) without taking the turbos off but Roy from C-Red commented that the turbos on another JZX90 sounded the same.
Peter- did you mean my profile pic? It's actually a photochop that a work mate of mine did up (the windscreen wipers are a giveaway). The only time i've taken this car to the plex i just spun the water off my tyres so i doubt there would have been much smoke.

Mine are the same as Travis. They are quite loud even at 2,000rpm when the car is cold, but they quiet down when warmed up. I don't recall the turbo's doing this until the intake, zorst and intercooler were installed, freeing up the turbo's at lower revs. I suspect the noise is getting louder in the past 6 months, so there might be some truth in them wearing - hope not. I'm only maxing at 12psi tho. My car is also getting oil in the intercooler pipework these days (149,000km), when I didn't get any at all back at 110,000km.

My mechanic in Sydney (soarer mechanic by the way) has had dealing with ATS and he recommends them.
By the way my car has 213,xxxkm on the clock and i just got a FMIC installed 2wks ago and i found no oil what so ever in the Stock IC that has to be good right?.
I dont find my Turbos to whistle that much, but i have had a comment from another driver he asked if it was a Turbo cause he heard them when i gave it abit of the lights.

Hayley. From my understanding, ceramic turbo's will come on boost a little quicker as there is less mass to spin up, but they tend to be fragile and break when you try and up the factory boost. Steel turbo's will be marginally slower to come on boost, but are far more durable and can handle much higher boost. You should come on the cruise next month too. I dont think Phillip Island is happening again till early next year.

From what I have heard Max will be shutting ATS down around christmas time.. He MAY be doing some work from home after this, but nothing is confirmed at the moment...

I have a TT ever since i bought it 2 years ago between 2000 - 3500 rpm they whistle loudly. Nothing is wrong with them touch wood, no lag or anything. I think it i quite normal.

Yeah Shane, when we removed my SMIC, there wasn't a drop of oil in it? Either the turbos are ok, or I had a HUGE leak in my IC piping haha.
All seems good though
*touch wood*
Greg: I have had no dealings with ATS (Yet) I've called Max and got quotes and stuff, he was the nicest workshop owner I've ever spoken to, you know what they say about first impressions, I'll be going back.

Hayley you should ask Sports and Luxury in Melbourne how much it would cost to install them and take them out for you, because i dont think ATS take the turbos out and install them (could be wrong though), i think you send them to them instead....Sports and Luxury are highly recommended and are a sponsors of the ALSC.
i think ATS charge $1800 for the Steel Wheel conversion i dont know if that includes Hi Flowing them, i think Hi Flowing them cost abit more.

All wrong Shane :P
I think it's $900 per turbo to have the exhaust wheel replaced with a steel one, it'll be slightly heavier and thus have a tiny bit more turbo lag.
$900 is for steel exhaust wheel, the compressor wheel is left untouched, I think they can rebuild them with ceramic wheels (Same as stock) which is fine if you don't plan on boosting over 15psi.
I think for ceramic wheels they charge $700-800 per turbo.
So: $1400-1600 for ceramic wheels + $400 labour (removing / replacing turbos from car) $1899 for steel wheels + $400 labour.
They will need the car for 3 days, 1 day to remove turbos, 1 day to do the work, and the last day to replace the turbos.
They have done a lot of ALSC guys cars with great results, so don't hesitate to deal with them.

Thats expensive Hayley. is that price Hi flowed aswell? (plus does that include removal and reinstalling turbos?)
I got a quote yesterday from GCG in Sydney. i got quoted $2400 for Steel Wheeled and Hi Flowed turbos ($1200 each turbo)
it includes a full rebuild of each turbo a steel wheel and a slightly bigger than factory Aluminum Compressor Wheel. unfortunatley the Thrust bearing cant be changed. so they recommended me not to go over 18psi. as the thrust bearing can be damaged with more PSI.
