Hey guys, wierdest thing just happened to me. I just came back from the garage for some tiny work, parked the car outside my work and now as I try to go home the car wont move from "PARK".

Has anyone had this happen before? I did a search and all I could find was stuck keys and clutch related issues. Please Help as I don't want to stay at work any longer.

Foot on brake?

Pushed red button in to override the park lock mechanism?

Wow, do i feel like an idiot now or what?

That little red button is the best invention ever. Saving people from being at work 24/7

Seriously though "Park lock" whats the deal there?
Though better than anything going through my mind. Eg, Fused transmission, melted wiring...etc.

Thanks Damien I'll have to work on my japanese so as not to look like a fool on here again.

Red button always wins out, but it could also be the gear lever has moved upward very slightly...

Slide the grey cover at the bottom of the lever down, loosen the 2 phillips head screws, push the gearlever right down firmly, then hold it down and tighten the 2 screws again.

Slide cover back up until it clicks, and re-test.

Keys in ignition, keys turned to on with engine going, and foot on brake, the gear lever should move.

There is a mecahnism that moves when you place your foot on the brake, and there is another one that activates when the key is in the ON position.

Yeah got it all sorted now.
Turns out it was a bit of both I held the red button in and loosened the screws a little.
Then Magical 'Click' and I was back in business. Thanks for your help Brian and Damien.

Now all I have to worry about is looking a little stupid in front of every soarer owner in the world.

Don't let it bother you Stephen, the more people share embarrassing moments, the more the rest of us might learn from it. :-)

You want embarrassing? When I first got the manual conversion, before the short shifter, it became steadily harder to select reverse. Eventually, I was in a parking lot nose-first and unable to select reverse at all. I pushed the car out, slightly uphill, aided by a woman I co-opted although she clearly thought I was driving something pretty dodgy. These are only mechanical problems

You shoulda turned the car of David and tried putting it in Reverse with no clutch and car turned off. It should go into gear then, Then press clutch in and start the car.

Its what ive had to do a couple times because my Reverse didnt want to work for some reason. But i think that was due to a crappy realease bearing.

No, the problem was one of adjustment Shane. I could not move the lever physically far enough to reach the reverse plane without hitting the console side.

I know this is a very old thread but I read this while trying to find out why my Soarer would not go into park. It was just the cover, it had fell down and was preventing the shifter from moving past reverse. Thanks to those involved in this thread.
