hrmmm my cars been idling at 600 when i'm in drive and 700 in park. Also when its cold i can feel the engine kind of.. well the best way i can describe it is... choke.. feels like the engines gonna die every 5 seconds... but when it warms up its ok... any ideas guys?

So, your cars normally idle around 600-700 RPM, toward the top end when there is no load (Park or Neutral) and dropping a little when you put it in Drive. Then, when you turn on the AC the revs rise to meet the load.
Alan's engine sounds like it might need a bit of a tune -- fuel or electrics.

nah richard.. the idle stays at 600 but but u feel the car kinda bump a bit... can't explain it... will show u guys at the next cruise. and daniel man 1000rpms is really high man.

Mine idles at 800rpm with aircon on. About 700rpm with it off.
I know what you mean about the bumping Alan, I've felt it in mine a couple of times, just can't remember when. It's not missing is it? It sounds as if it's running a bit "uneven" at idle if that's the word.

what do you mean by íts not missing'??? hrmmm i guess yeah a bit uneven... like the engine will be idling and suddenly it'll spike and go bump... even though the revs don't go up or down on the rev meter....

or adjust the idle speed screw, ...not the ones sitting directly under the throttle or cruise linkages facing downwards, it's the one that is a bit tucked in under the cruise linkage mechanism, facing towards the front of the car. Use 8 mm socket with an extension to loosen the lock nut first, and a 2.5mm allen key to turn the screw clockwise. wind ur idle speed up to 800, and c if there is still a miss.

I wouldn't recommend adjusting the "idle screw". It is actually the butterfly stop, so that the butterfly can't smash into the throttle body. What controls the idle in a tt is actually the ICV (Idle Control Valve, funnily enough) at the back of the intake manifold. I've had a similar problem. Run a bottle of injector cleaner through the engine, and change the plugs. If that doesn't help, then maybe the O2 sensor as well. Also, remove the ICV and clean with carby cleaner. P.S. Iridium plugs are hard to tell if they are worn out. I replaced mine with a set of standard plugs, as a process of elimination (a lot cheeper at $3 a plug as opposed to $25ea). If it helps, consider putting new iridiums in. I'm still running standard plugs, they'll just need changing every 10k km's or so.

Screwing around with the throttle plate stopper screw will also throw out your TPS settings! Your EFI ECU won't know when you're idling with your foot off the accelerator or when you've backed off suddenly!!!

hrmm i've changed the plugs about 2 months ago so it wouldn't be that. I think it started happening a bit after i did my 100k service. i've run injector cleaner through it and that didn't make a difference. Yeah i think i'll clean the ICV, morgan too reconmended that i do that.

So the throttle butterfly is connected to the TPS and the TPS will therefore register greater than 0% if the butterfly is held open by the stopper screw?
Short of shelling out for an ECU that allows IACV control (which the Emanage doesn't) has anyone found a cheap way of raising the idle speed?
