Ask him when the Timing belt and water pump were changed. Otherwise theres alittle bit more to do it if you were to buy it.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I forgot to add the following info - He has written:
"Ideal for Toyota Soarer, Cressida or for a Torana conversion, revs extremely quickly, very tough street turbo engine. 410 hp - 365 nm of torque @ 7400 rpm, twin cam / EFI / intercooled, the engine has a 600 hp Bosch motorsports EFI pump, primer pump + surge tank, DNA adjustable boost controller, DNA stainless air filter, DNA Cannon exhaust 3 inch dump pipe, TCC blow off valve, mild camshafts, modified ECU, runs on unleaded fuel, comes with all computer / loom + all accessories (starter, alt, Autometer Boost Gauge etc)."

Does it sound more appealing now, or still too much?

Maurice is that true about the intercooler position and the throttle response? If so how would that work?

I'll get a compression test done if the package is worth the money.

Get a compression test done BEFORE you buy it.

With all that gear for $1800 sounds like a resonable deal. Why is he selling ???

As for the intercooler, there is less room for air to be compressed in therefore your throttle response will be better.

But the place the intercooler is in wouldn't get as much cooling outside airflow as where the stock SMIC usually sits... that's what I'm getting at. I presume this one here would sit between the engine and the radiator...

I think the 410hp would be at the engine through calcs. Even with 15% drivetrain loss that works out to 261rwkw which is possible but very difficult to do on stock turbos. (as it doesn't mention any turbo upgrade).

Sounds like a good deal if the compression test is ok. Also, if the cams are upgraded compression will be down on normal so you should do a leak down test. 10% and less is a good figure.

The guy is selling on behalf of his son.
He said he bought the engine as a replacement for the original. As the original is still going strong he wont be replacing it. Additionally the dad thinks its too much power for his son.

Have asked a number of questions that he's yet to get back to me on, so ill let you know when i get the responses.

Thanks again guys.

pump = $250
surge tank = $150
primer pump = $100

boost controller = $100? electronic = $350?
air filter = $70?
cannon = $150?
BOV = $150
cams = ???
ecu = ???

I would get more detail on the cams and ecu also. Just the above costs about $970 plus cams and ecu. Engines with loom and ecu generally go for about $1000-1200 or so. (No gearbox)

Look at the factory like torque figure he quoted. Either it's a near stocker or he doesn't know how to roughly calculate torque.

I would say he was originally planning to put this engine on a speed boat. Have seen it done in a magazine before, and that was how they had the intercooler set up. Perfect air flow with an open engine on a speed boat. I would be very cautious about buying this for a car, unless he can guarantee that it never actually made it onto the boat.

that motor was quoted as making 298kW at the" prop". attached to a boat engine dyno. very free breathing,but still... big power for std turbos. no power losses through a trans tho!!!

Nice how they "forget" to mention these things.

I think i asked the seller too many questions that he wasnt prepared to answer or tell the truth on...bloody stooge.

Well back to square one for now, unless someone has anymore ideas from where to source a reliable 1jz in Vic.

Im waiting for Aaron Klaver to come back soon. Its only his honeymoon, doesnt he realise my motors more important!

Thanks fellas
