Hi guys,

I had my water pump replaced a couple of weeks ago.

I also added a bottle of Wynns stop leak fluid into the radiator for the purpose to lubricate the water pump not that there are any leaks.

Today when i was driving the engine started to overheat. Could this wynn's product cause this to happen, a bit of coolant was drained before they added the product.

Oh yea and also im going to put my car up for sale if any one wants to purchase it.

$12K has done 102 kilometres.

Cheers

No mate that won't be the problem. Maybe there are still air bubbles in the coolant. Try running the car with the coolant cap off for a while this might solve your problem.

Check your thermostat, might need replacing too.

Park the car with the nose facing uphill and run it with the rad cap off to try and purge any air. Even use a coke bottle with the bottom chopped off, stick the neck into the radiator fill hole.

As I understand it, any radiator stop leak type product is designed to put a bit of a coating everywhere, not really a good thing if you don't have a leak.

Like Peter said that stop leak stuff will go every where. Most likely it has helped to block off some of the tubes in the radiator and causing the car to overheat. First thing to try would be to take the radiator out and take it and get it cleaned.

According to "grease monkey" mate of mine, the coating is anerobic, and only sets/seals where there is a leak to the air outside.

Turn the heater on when your running it with the cap off too.

Aaron, that is correct to a point, but contaminants and air bubbles can pose a problem.

Mostly it's recommended for temporary repairs with the advice to get the system flushed afterwards.

Wynn's also make no claims about it being good for the water pump.
