About a month ago the car's turbo took a dump and died on me, that's a fun trick! I posted this up elsewhere the day it happened but I'm moving it over here as I start to fix it tomorrow morning.
Long weekend 3-4 weeks back:
Steps on how to have a bad long weekend; -Step 1, Hear a noise that stops your soul -Step 2, Find oil in the intake in a large amount all the way to the intake manifold -Step 3, Find carbon deposits on the turbo intake blades -Step 4, Watch as the turbo doesn't move while car is running and being revved
The blades spin freely when moved by hand, but they don't move an iota when the engine is running. *cocking shotgun*
Day it happened I decidedly purchased a new turbo and thought about what I wanted to do.
I finally got some time to take a look and I was well enough to do things (been very ill last few weeks) so I went out there and took a look at both the ct26 and the Hks Sport upgrade turbo.
IMAGE:
SPECS (that I've managed to find.. may or may not be accurate, most seem so): Turbine: Garrett AiResearch T04E Compressor Trim: 54 Compressor A/R Ratio: 0.50 Turbine A/R Ratio: 0.63 Maximum RPM: 135,000 Maximum Pressure Ratio: 3.2 Airflow: 16.8 - 40.0 lb/min Maximum Temp: 1670F Ceramic coated Turbo "elbow"
Major flow increases, efficiency increase, larger boost "sweet spot". Minimal, if any, decrease in turbo response.
Sweet spot of turbo now ~15-16 psi (CT26~8) Maximum boost now ~20-21 psi (CT26~14)
There really isn't all to much different externally:
Different placement of the oil feed and return lines (read: better) More solid fitting for the Water line Different placement of the hose fittings for the actuator. Exhaust housings perfectly match the ct 26 in terms of bolt positions Bolts for the shield appear to actually extrude from the housing rather than be tapped to fit bolts.
I'll have some time to start working on the car and replacing the sucker this week; Plus I'll give the car a full service. Once I have the ct 26 off I'll pull her apart and see what was actually done, but there seems to be a lot of oil in there so two guesses.
The front mount should be here this week or so, and I'll do that all at the same time If I can. I went for a Bar and Plate 600x300x76 with a 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. Picked up a boost controller and a new bov setup which I'll put on at the same time. I just need to get the pipes I need for the fmic, 4/5 ply all the way... bugger bling.
Yet to come: Gotta find a decent piggy back or full ecu, I'm thinking of just an emanage for the moment. I gotta grab an oil catch can and I have an oil filter relocation kit + cooler on the way. Transmission is a big must! I'd love to play with some new cams, but I don't know what I want.
