Hahaha, It's the Auto-Destruct feature only found on a select few lucky Soarers.

Ummm.. Actually it stands for Automatic Drive the early Japanese Equivalent for Cruise Control. Just push the button on the end of the lower stalk on the right of the steering wheel and it should turn off.

Ahhhh. The Awful Destruction warning message. Or is it Absolute Damnation? . That is priceless.

Sorry to laugh at someone elses expense, but it IS the Australian way.

could be a red a/d in the lcd. That happened to me the other day and it was due to the fact that the brake light connector being not connected (stupid alarm installer forgot to put it back in). This cable also causes your gear to not come out of Park and of course your brake light not working:-)

hasnt been back on since, I actually used cruise for the first time in months on sunday (worked the morning shift) and it does say A/D, not cruise ( I was thinking of when I had the cressida )

But I did not touch the cruise buttons at all when I posted this, so its a little weird.

Think I remember reading somewhere that Toyota changed it from Auto Drive to Cruise Control in the mid '90's to avoid lawsuits (from idiots who thought auto drive literally meant the car should drive by itself I presume)

What does it mean when you get the RED warning flash while driving. Happened for a brief 3 seconds. Temperature was minus 17C. Cruise was turned off, all lights work fine.

it was weird I saw the Green A/D flash intermitantly for a second and then the warning came on and then it was gone. any ideas?

A/D will start flashing for gearbox errors.

Switch the car off, jumper E1 and TT on the diagnostics plug UNDER THE DASH and then turn the key to the on position and go through the errors on the screen.

Write them all down, adn you will be looking for an error number for ECT, more than likely ECT 63 (commonly known as Solenoid 2 error).

Once you have all the errors written down, switch the car off, lift the bonnet and pull the EFI fuse (30amp from memory) for at least 10 seconds and then re-insert the fuse and repeat the diagnostic procedure. (it should have no errors at this stage because the EFI fuse has cleared the error memory banks. If you get an error now, it's something that requires fixing sooner rather than later.

New Solenoids are about $262 each from Toyota (probably get them cheaper now) and installing them is a simple process.

Thank you so much, that is a huge help.

I live in Canada, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get Toyota Part Numbers for the Soarer as the 1JZ-JTE was never offered here. Do you happen to know what the part number would be for that solenoid?

Davin, other cars used the A340E as well. Ask them about solenoids for the transmission, not the car.
