Just fill up to the max each time, and reset your Odo/trip meter each fillup. Write the figure onto your receipt, that way you can work out the km per litre. Best way to track fuel economy, instead of kms per tank.

havent replied in a while

ive actually learned a few things about the car, and it seems the turbos may not actually be the culprit. ive taken it to a mate of mine and hes had a look at it. Hes not a mechanic but he lives and breathes sports cars and has taught me a great deal about turbos thus far...

he reckons the smoke is likely the cause of condensation, which dosent seem too far fetched for me considering the whole exhaust system was modified to 3"+ piping, making it easier for liquids to get trapped inside. Infact he has actually spotted liquid sitting around in it before i started it up. upon taking it for a drive he reckons it drives normal enough. he didnt notice any cutting out / unusual sounds / smells.

Ofcourse you never know with these things... ill be getting it pressure tested + dyned soon as a piece of mind. None the less id like to thank everyone for theyre help so far =) your explanations have made things a lot clearer for me, and now that i understand more about the car I own, I enjoy driving it more!

I get police sirens coming from my turbos at cold starts and that puff of white smoke.

I believe my turbos are about to blow and I'm just trying to help them along by boosting them.

The white smoke is only noticable when I use a thin synthetic oil so try using a thicker synthetic oil. 15w-40 should fix that white smoke a little. That is the right oil guys?

just had a mate look at the car today... i told him to go outside the car and note if any smoke was leaking from the exhaust on a hard run.

He noted a significant amount of white smoke, although oddly later on that day i had someone else look at the car and they couldnt find any smoke at all...

on the first run, the turbos were being used for the first time that day so they couldve still been cold. Ofcourse id let the car warm up, it had been driven for at least 20 mins before, although i had kept it under 2500rpm. on the second run id already used the turbos prior to the run, and the turbos were already warm.

An interesting thing to note, when I was revving the car in park after the first run, not a puff of smoke was coming out... on the other hand ever since i took it all the way up main north road (to the free way) the cars been making a loud squeaking noise when i start her up and rev it idle above 5000rpm. the squeaking noise is only temporary, only lasts a fraction of a second when starting up, and will stop once the rpm range drops below 5000 so it seems to be related to engine movement, and could be caused by some sort of friction in the engine. it dosent seem to be squeaking in sequence to the turbos kicking in so im thinking its not related to the turbos... sounds more like the noise a stuffed fan belt makes, although both the fan and timing belt have been changed :-)

bottom line I need to get the car fully inspected. can anyone recommend a fair reliable mechanic somewhere in adelaide?
