| It's odd that both you and Khalid spell cylinders with an A? Never seen that before. |

My old car had 104psi on 1 cylinder, and 115 PSI average on the other 3 cylinders. Needless to say there was a reason I could get away with massively high PSI boost, and not have pinging, etc. I also ran much thicker head gaskets, to space and reduce compression, not because the engine was shagged. | In my experience, compression ratio means SFA. |

| I think he is referring to the difference between static compression and dynamic compression. ? |

| ratio you can compensate by other means PSI with in cylinders is a little bit harder and a right royal pig to tune. if thay are different |

| Nothing like that Chris, i just mean a shoddy engine can have good compression too. Bottom end and head clearances make no difference to compression. |

Am I reading that wrong or are you saying that thick(multiple) head gaskets or shaving of the head has no effect on compression ratios? |

| I think Cihan means COmpression as in PSI of the cylinder when doing a compression test. Not the actual COmpression ratio. |

| that is dynamic compression So he is saying that an engine can have great compression but only really tells you that the valves are seating properly and the rings are good. Other problems may still be there with other parts but you can't really check them without pulling an engine down. So saying an engine is in tip top condition with 185 across all cylinders could be misleading eg. if the big end bearing was gone or something like that. (I don't THINK that would lower dynamic compression) |
