hey everyone, i've got a problem which im not sure of.
well i checked my car today and i can see a bit of oil leaking or bits of oil sitting near the throttle body. like close to the injectors, is that a bad thing or a good thing? just kind of worried because if its bad then im going to have to send me car off to warranty. :-(

Peter, it could be coming from the rocker covers as the seals get worn when they're aged (as all seals do).

Hi Peter,

That's exactly the same leak as my car just developed.

Mine looks to be the attachment to the head (shown just above your top yellow circle) that might be the culprit. I have oil near the front bolt and surround and the leak is directly below....just a gasket?

Most mechanics will do it with silicon sealant for <$100. The one they used on my car was blue-ish in colour.

Hasn't leaked since.

Peter, replace the cam cover gaskets. They're cheap brand new from Toyota. Part number (for gaskets x 2) are 11213-88400.

hahaha
I just realised im calling them rocker covers..

Shom, I heard the stock gaskets fail under heat or something, and to use a silicon gasket. If my memory serves me correctly, this was the case.

That may well be true mate, and whilst I don't doubt the heat resistant properties of silicon, I'll take my chances that Toyota's $3b war chest for R&D didn't go so far astray that OEM gaskets won't last for at least another 50000km

It's quite easy to replace and reseal it. A bit of a lengthy job due to wierd angles and the tube of silicone isnt exactly easy to sqirt out.

I'd say 2-3 hour job with alot of slacking around.

Your back will hurt.
