I guess the compression test will show if he has bent a valve in the process?
But i would be checking if the belt is actually busted first. Cause you have to be able to move each cylinder so both valves are closed to do a comp test anyways. So doing one would be useless if it is busted.

People need to learn. We all start somewhere. Instructions on where to look for a broken belt are pretty simple. Pretty sure he can identify a broken belt too.

FYI sucking a turbine wheel into the engine has happened on a 1jz before. Apparently it can happen if the wheel fails as you back off therefore vacuum in the inlet manifold and greatly reduced backpressure in the exhaust manifolds. Unsure if it gets to vacuum though? But just letting you know that it can happen if you are very unlucky.
Compression test is the go yes. Go and google it. It is easy as. Come back with the results and let us know.
