Hello all

I have a T04Z Garrett with a 0.70 a/r rear housing...

I am thinking of swapping the rear to a 0.61. Does anyone know how much quicker it will hit full boost?

At the moment it hits peak 1.2bar at around 4400rpm with HKS cams...

Are you serious? I used to have a T04E with .7ar rear housing and fullboost can be had at about 3800rpm in third gear and this was a non ball bearing unit too. I would say you should get fullboost before 4000rpm with a T04Z as this is a ball bearing unit. I didn't have cams but I did have adjustable cam gears though. I don't suggest to use .61 as it would be a waste of the T04Z as its potential is way more than 250rwkw.

Though I think the T04E may have physically smaller compressor wheels then the T04S/R/Z series...

I havent properly measured boost levels vs rpm car is in the workshop now getting a re-tune

what's the front AR on a T04Z? .7?

It depends how much power you want.
General rule is good response down low means less top end power and vice versa

Gavin what management are you running?
I'd guess the tune could use some improvement for more rapid boost, it should be a pretty lively turbo (EDIT: for its size!) with the 0.70AR housing. Camgear adjustment plays a big role as you would have found out already.

A to4z is a big turbo, regardless of exhaust a/r.the exhaust housing is still big and takes some gasses to fill it.

AFAIK most normal spec t04e's are 57mm comp wheels. to4z is a 67mm comp wheel.

BTW 1.2bar at 4400rpm is pretty bloody good for a turbo of that size. My little 57mm makes 15psi at 4000rpm basically, (3rd gear auto, locked converter).

After you get it tuned, get a datalog on the street in 4th gear from like 2500rpm. I would be VERY interested to see that!

What cams do you have in it? With some decent fuel, 1.5bar, good tune and a manual I would be thinking about 320+rwkw! Should be a bit of fun to drive :-) BTW go to Kwinana when you are done :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you may be needing to change some under bonnet components if you plan on hitting 320wkw and keeping your engine together.

Keyword in my quote is "decent fuel". :-)

Try to make 320rwkw on 98 octane and it can probably be done but you will have to retard timing a lot to avoid detonation. Conversely, know a guy who makes 350rwkw in a circuit 1jz powered car using a 100ron + toluene mix. Stock internals. Going strong for 2 years or so.

Fuel and tune :-)

I've talked to him in person at his workshop. His actually blown up two motors. One blow up due to running a bit to lean in the mixtures for the tune (lesson leant), and the other one had some plastic bag or some stuck in the fuel pump and that destroyed an engine. This is a bit over 3 years, current motor but has all problems sorted and goes and goes....
