Hey all, Just got my new turbos on. Everything seems to be ok, apart from it hitting boost really late (around 3500-4000 rpm), then i installed a Blitz SSBC last night. it doesnt feel like its got anymore boost in it at all (didnt have a boost gauge on it so i couldnt tell for sure), but it pings like crazy around 5000 rpm when the controller is on, but when it is off no pinging. Im wondering if anyones got any ideas? ill post a pic of how i hooked up the controller.

you could be hitting boost cut (more than likely)..dont mess about with boost controllers unless you have a guage or a deep wallet to fix your engine when it goes bang

Joel, are you sure your fuel cut defender is tuned correctly? These change the fuel amounts in a very basic way. I think your best bet would be to go to a workshop and get the lot tuned. I doubt the problem is with the boost controller as the Soarer will quite happily let you run 15psi if you don't have the cuts in there, it just chucks lots of fuel in and gives you a black cloud behind the car every time you boot it, good for getting rid of tailgaters haha.

Sounds like your car is running Absurd amounts of boost....
No offence, But trying to adjust a boost controller without a guage is plain stupid and should never be done.. Specially when the Boost cut is removed!
Take it and get it done on a dyno before you destroy your engine!

its going down to the dyno on monday. but i want to make sure the electrical side is ok before he trys to tune it.
Basically the way the fcd and safc are setup is, MAP Sensor --> FCD --> SAFC --> ECU. I assumed that the SAFC would get the modified map signal from the fuelcut defender and then pass it to the ecu? is that right?

it is an safc. not a safc2. i cant add and remove fuel.
Err.... Joel, I think you should get a reputable workshop to check all your handywork and tune the thing. You could be causing some damage to your engine.

Bypass the AFR stuff on the SAFC so that it only goes though the FCD, and then see if it runs better. I gained a fair bit of HP when I did this, my SAFC was actually costing me power. Maybe the FCD and SAFC don't play nice together.

ok got it sorted out by my mechanic, seemed as though my fuel reg was not working correctly. but now i need to adjust the timing. I need to have something installed by monday as it is going on the dyno. anyone used the Jaycar programmable ignition system? or have any other ideas as to what to use. I have to have it ready by monday.

Yeah Muz, but you were running 440's and we discussed it woulda been ripping the out of the voltage to accomodate the power levels...
Most people find the safc raises boost cut with standard injectors safely to 15psi as a minimum.
Dont forget, the SAFC modules ONly reduce the voltages at set points, so at some stage in between those points the voltage will raise itself back up until the controller lowers it again..
AN Fcd clamps the voltage and problem solved completely.
