Hi all,
i was wondering if anyone has tried or knows anything about those "piggy back" chips advertised on ebay that say they can increase power by 15 BHP... do they work and do they strain or damage the engine at all???
Thanks

Don't bother... they are usually a just a resistor which changes a voltage signal that the ECU uses to calculate fuel mixtures. All they do is f**k with the system that toyota spent millions developing. When assessing these "too good to be true" mods, i ask myself... if it we're so simple, why diddn't they come stock with them?

Boosting the power of a tt is not rocket science. refer to the rest of the info on these forums. If you want a cheap mod to up your power, up the boost with a bleed valve like this...

good for a few extra psi on a stock system, don't go too overboard though...

From what i hear most of those mods on ebay are just a little resistor that you wire into the coolant temp sensor.
Your Coolant temp sensor is a NTC (negative tempreture co-efficent) in other words when its cold it has a high resistance, and when it is hot it has a lower resistance. And depending on the resistance/tempreture the car adjust the mixture

All it does is adds extra resistance in the circut and gives the ECU a different reading.
The ECU still thinks the car is cold and ups the mixture of the car and makes it run a little bit richer.
Good or Bad you make your own decision

Just a quick (and possibly dumb) question regarding this type of controller. Where is the best place to put it ? As there is 2 turbos on a TT, wouldnt you need 2 of these ? One for each wastegate ?

Or am I thinking in the wrong way ?
