Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any pics of where the thermostat for the radiator is located. I am replacing it in the morning and I want to know where it is so that I don't have to do to much deep searching. Much appreciated

Thanks guys, Easy Easy to change. Got it out and back up and running in less than an hour from the top. I didn't reinstall another thermostat. I just took out the spring so that it would be a free flow. Here in the bahamas is very hot so alot of cars don't have thermostats in them. Usually when we import cars the first thing we take out is the thermostat. What are the pros and cons of removing a thermostat?

Well it actually works in reverse... NOT having one at all Will not restrict flow and will not keep the coolant in the radiator long enough to cool down efficiently. As well as not allowing the engine to warm up efficiently regardless of temps.
Order a TRD 71 degree unit and install that! It will work much better.

What do you find your coolant temps run at with the TRD thermostat? And are they stable like they are with the 82C thermostat? What is the Toyota part# for it?
Coolant does its job best at high pressure and high temperature, the greater the temperature differential between the coolant and the air, the more effective it is.

Braden I have no idea at this stage as I have not hoked up my temp guage yet.however it is spot on between halfway mark and one bar to the left. the temp guage sits between. I have so far monitored the oil temp wich is 90c and hardly moves I have also kept my eye on the wide band guage and it pretty much sits on 14.4 to 15.4 on idle or cruising.

Thanks Mustafa I'll be keen to see what your aftermarket gauge reads when you hook it up. Apparently running engines cooler than normal decreases their life quite a bit also. 5-10C should be OK I reckon.

hey if you have a stock thermostat in and some dumb***t decided to chew the guts outta it.. the hole that is left (maybe 20mm) isn't going restrict the coolant enough to make use of the radiator correct?
but on the other hand.. if your radiator is half full of wouldn having the thermostat chewed out create a little more pressure in the water train thus enhancing the coolant??? jus a theory here..
