hey i recently bought a 1991 TT soarer
and i've had a few problems. the biggest issue was the power steering pump went so it started making a weird lound noise? so i got it replaced and was ok for 2 days and went it started to make the noise again... i haven't been able to take it back to the mechanic but just wandering if any one knows why it does it? and also the car blows a bit of smoke but its only sometimes? and its real random it only does it sometimes . and when it does it smokes quite a bit. i asked the mechanic and they said i should rebuild it but the smoke sometimes doesn't even come out. and the last problem is i got the seat belt light on the dash and it won't go off even when i put the seat belt on. any help wud be very helpful.

Welcome Peter

Firstly was the power steering pump replaced with a second hand item or rebuilt? Could possibly have air trapped causing the noise, but I don’t know too much on these.

When does the car blow smoke? On throttle, boost, startup? If its white its usually worn turbo seals, black smoke the cars just running rich and I believe blue smoke is valve stem seals. Soarers with worn turbo seals seem to commonly blow white smoke when at idle or coming on/off boost.

Thirdly your seat belt warning is probably just a dodgy connection, check the connection under the seat and try using the search function there should be some info/pics which will help you identify the problem.

also while your looking up info and hints.. look up power steering flush.. if the mechanic that replaced your p/s pump didn't flush it ($5 says they didn't) then do that to be sure..

hey thanks for the help. i just got back to my country today and went to the mechanics and found out my power steering pump line or something is leaking so the noise started coming on hence i ran out of power steering fluid. and the smoke is white and i dun have a clue when it comes out its just random sometimes when i am idling or sometimes when i am on the move. so you think i should get my turbo seals checked out?

pull a intake or boost side pipe off and check for oil deposits.. pull the ugly skinny plastic pipe off that runs across under the front of the car and check that for oil.. if its chockers.. just get steelies.. or convert to single..

convert to single and save yourself the money later. buy the parts first and you can do the conversion inside a day.
