I have just ran the car at WSID got a
13.7@102.24 which is was pretty happy with. Current mods are FMIC, 3" Cat back single exhaust, 13psi, Pod filter. I would like some opinions on what mod to do next and am looking to do it on a budget. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Finish off the exhaust, get the dumps done. Also maybe get a piggyback fuel computer to get your air/fuel ratios right, (SAFC maybe) get a good tune. Then go back and try again.

I was considering holding off on new dumps as a single turbo conversion maybe in the pipe line, Any recommendations on the piggy back ecu, what about bigger injectors?. How much difference would a shift kit would make to times?

Dont worry about injectors.. I would run a FCD and get it tuned on the Dyno. Run up to 16psi and this should see you down to 13.2-13.3 @ 104-105mph.

Then install a Stage 1 Shift kit. This will trim 0.1-0.2 and also ensure the gearbox will last you a long time.

This should net you close to 13.0's.

How much tuning can they do on the dyno if you only have the standard ecu?

None. If you only have the standard computer. if you are adding a FCD or SAFC there is a bit that can be done. More so with the SAFC.

IM not a fan of SAFC's as they constantly change the timing and fuel. You end up with an slmost irregular signal to the ecu. The FCD clamps it at one point which i find safer.

Myself and Braden ( aka Ribfeast ) and AKA all made good times and good numbers with the FCD only. Much cheaper than the safc, and almost everytime a car fitted with the safc went on the dyno at the dyno day, they all had to be trimmed back as they were on the edge.

When driving the car at high RPM it feels as though it is running to lean, I dont want to up the boost any more until I know for sure that it is not to lean. how is the best way to check this?

look in the back window and look out for smoke=rich
seriously, dyno is your friend on this one, save up $60, and get a 3 run pass, use one for normal, one with more boost etc.

You cannot tune the stock ecu.

As far as lean-ness? I was running 17psi making 220rwkw with a FCD on 4.15volts with stock ecu + pump + injectors.

What sort of FCD should I buy or are they all the same, how hard is it to set one up.

FCD= fuel cut defender (the thing that clamps he voltage to around 3.7v, so the ecu wont cause boost cut when seeing around 13psi+)

get an emanage....dont waste your time with a SAFC, you might as well build a jaycar fuel controller, at least that thing has up to 128 points of tune :-)

if you only plan to run these mods you already have for eternity, then a safc is fine, but if you ever wish to update.... stick to a emanage.... blue at minimum, ultimate if you have an extra $400 to play with (+150 for a boost sensor for 3 bar tuning woot!)

just my 2 quaters worth :-)

Thanks Charlie!, I just installed my S-AFC about two weeks ago, I have heard of a few good results using them so I hope it was worth it. It was cheap enough...
Whats better pod filter or BFI?

bfi would keep your intake cooling efficient.. correct?

I currently have a k&n pod and after driving around a bit, i popped the bonnet and felt around the pod and it was nearly un touchable....!!

stock air box with a massive hole at the front would probly be a better option..

M
p.s.please check out the tuning posts as i got issues wit my jzz30
