Hey guys. I'm a bit of a nuffy particularly with ECUs, so was hoping to draw on your experience. I don't have a target power figure but will just be happy with what I end up with.

Current mods:
- intake
- FMIC
- suspension

Reason for this thread:
- turbo back exhaust
- EBC
- cam gears
- turbo / manifold
- injectors
- ECU

The stock twins are blown. Zero boost. So I'm probably going to go single. I've found a GT3082 (compresser housing 0.70 and 0.82 turbine housing).

I was going to buy a T3 manifold off ebay... is this a bad idea? Should I get a custom one made? On paper the manifold sounds good, all mandrel bent/ported/polished and internal diameter of 45mm - is this way too small?

With the sort of power this turbo will produce, what size injectors? 440cc or 550cc?

And the big one... What ECU? I don't want to lay out $2k for a PowerMOD and realistically I'm never going to find an Apexi PowerFC. Will the Emanage Blue be enough to keep up with the rest of the car? I've read the e-manage ultimate is needed for 550cc injectors. Or please recommend something... and where to order anything you recommend! I am no good at sourcing that kind of thing.

Anyway I was planning on buying the T3 and manifold first, then ECU and injectors, then cams, and getting it all installed together. I'm thinking I'll need an oil cooler as well, and there's probably a few other things that I haven't thought of... so please tell me! Fuel pump?

Please help with this initial nudge in the right direction.

Manifold - A T3 one will be fine and will give you the ability to fit a nice responsive turbo GT35 , GT3082 etc etc. * It may need to be modified but usually all that means is shorten the wastegate pipe as that will foul on the firewall.

Wastegate - dont stuff around with this one.. just buy a decent one straight up, a tial should be around 500 or so and will work nicely. I bought a setup of a guy and he had a JJR (justjap/crap) wastegate - i got hosed, it didnt hold boost was sh1t as and cost me 1000 just to swap it over with the tial (labor etc etc) really annoyed me.

I have 440s and they seem to do a good job, this is another "your choice" kinda thing. Depends on what sort of power you are chasing.

ECU - In my opinion i would just buy a NEW ECU from a place that sells them fitted and tuned. ITs sooo much easier than buying an ECU , paying some shmuck to install it (again i got ripped off with mine - EMS $500 install!!!???) and then having to find a decent place to tune it. So yeh - buy new and as a package (tuned and fitted)
Lew will back me up with that one.

I installed a walbro pump which was easy .. but i hear the soarer ones generally are pretty good. Thing is - when a fuel pump is somewhat cheap in the whole scheme of things i reckon its a good idea to buy a new one JUST INCASE the old one sh1ts out due to its newfound demands.

Oil cooler - as in for tranny or just engine oil? Unless you are doing track days and the like i reckon oil coolers are a bit of a wank (waits to be flamed by keyboard warriors)

Enjoy your build up and all the headaches it will no doubt produce.

i agree with this, but if the car has a shift kit, i would most likely use a tranny cooler, due to the extra heat caused by the kit cheers.

Emanage Ultimate all the way. can be had for about $800 and can get plug in harness if you choose too. Otherwise is easy to wire in anyway. As you are in QLD i could give you a hand with this as im on the goldcoast.

injectors.. 440's will take you to 280rwkw which will be plenty of power. 3082, same turbo as mine. also wastegate, as mentioned buy quality eg tial, turbosmart. If you have the money get some drop in 600cc's injectors and get them flow tested before putting them in. This will get you close to the 300rwkw mark.

also shift kit wont create more heat. will actually stop gearbox slipping, but more power will create more heat and same with increased stall speeds.

oh and ebay stainless manifolds... i have one on mine, it needed a few little modifications to get it right but havent had a problem with it.

If you get the bigger injectors and emanage i can help you set it up and get the car running with bigger injectors.

i use a microtech mtx-8 and it works well and was only $1500 including install and tune
and as far as the coolers go i now have a engine and tranny cooler just to be on the safe side even if it is a bit of a wank id rather be safe than sorry

I was referring mainly to Engine oil coolers...

Yeh if you go a shift kit go a tranny oil cooler - Mitsubishi Magna ones from the wreckers go pretty well for $5 !

Just picked up a GT3082 for $1150, which apparently only saw around a weeks use on the roads before the guy decided he wanted something bigger.

This thing is huge, haha.

I'm in the market for manifolds now, probably go an N-Power T3-flange one off ebay and get it smoothed out, I've seen one of these up close and they have great welds but need some dremel work as there are some really bad burrs inside on the joins.

Depending on where you are in Brissy i know that a shop called 999 Automotive does those N-power brand manifolds and they also cash nice CASH deals (well they did with my twin twin cannons)

They are on the South side

Good idea on the clean up idea, i had my manifold cleaned up also just for something to do - as far as benefits go.... hard to say.

Doesn't a shift kitted transmission generate less heat as it doesn't slip the shifts as much? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

yes that is true, but increased pressure creates heat. i very much doubt that a car tranny would slip.with stock power if it was in good knick depending on how hard the shifts were. if a tranny is slipping no matter how good a cooler is it will overheat.

also remember that the torque converter is using the same oil, and the generate's a lot of heat, especially when power goes up it works harder all the time :-)

Yes

just dont get tempted to put your foot down too far. Put it on a dyno and get it checked before you decide to do that.

Hmm ebay i'd be skeptical, but they kinda look legit.

ive got a 44mm tial on my setup with the 3082 turbo. I also got the 1bar spring option with the waste gate. i could run around at 14psi all day every day without the need for a boost controller. It help boost perfect. No spikes or anything.

I have a rolin imports 1jzgte manifold that my mate was running on his soarer. The was using a 50mm turbo smart gate and wasn't having any problem with clearance like the ebay manifolds.

Ok minor updates - I fixed the boost issue (not a blown turbo, thankfully) and wound up the boost to around 14.5, it occasionally spikes over into boost cut territory which is... interesting... I just need to wait until the roads are dry again before I wind it back down, its a bit slippery at the moment.

I also ran a flexible pipe for the BFI and am organising a heat shield tomorrow, the pipe made a small but noticable difference. I've bought an exhaust which should show up in the next week and I picked up an Emanage Ultimate which I'll throw in with the base map from Cihan once I sort out a harness.

Where can I get a T13 harness? I hear there are huge delays.

Also, where do people usually install the EMU unit? Glove box? Or what?

its best to buy the ecu/loom from cihan at etuner.com.au

best thing i ever did.... it took him a total of 35 whole seconds to connect it, and run the base ecu map for me.... it was money 100% well spent (better then a million cut wires, and the chance of one coming undone)... unless christan will give you a hand :-)

i used the glove box.... looks cool :-) i used a soldering iron to melt the plastic to fit the wiring, also the factory cover for the jzz30 needs the middle seperator (the wall bit) removed with pliers, so the factory cover can still be used in the kick panel....

(the emanage usb cable runs out through underneath the middle cup holder)
