Cheers Christian. As far as penis extensions go that car takes the cake.

What about the head, are the gte and ge 2j head the same or would I better off going with a 2j head. I don't want to go 1.5j. I plan on doing a ground up rebuild before I install which is why I think I might as well save the money and get a ge motor but, a gte head on it's own is quite expensive and might make it worth while just getting a complete gte motor.

Hi,

As mentioned above, the reason for retaining the 1jz head and using the 2jz block is as follows.

1. Cost effectiveness

2. Retaining injector setup and headwork if any.

3. Wiring, retaining your 1jz sensors used on the head, manifold etc.

2jz Auto boxes are stronger as I have read they have additional clutch packs possibly to handle the extra torque so that is something to keep in mind.

Not sure how much power stock 1j Auto boxes can handle when used with a 2jz.

I'm aware of the reasons for going 1.5j but I'm not going to do that. I'm planning on using a 2jz-ge bottom end but I need to know if it's ok to use the 2jz-ge head.

I don't see how retaining injector setup should be an issue as they are interchangeable but 1/3 are correct.

2JZ-GE head has no cam angle sensor (ie. home signal) so you can't run stock 1JZ ECU or stock 2JZ-GTE ECU.

Also run into problems with aftermarket computers as many don't like the standard distributor signals.

I dug up an ancient HPi, where someone coverted his JZZ30 to a 2JZ. 'Apparently' he retained all the 1JZ sensors, loom, and 1JZ ECU, and just had the fuel and ignition mapped on an aftermarket ECU...

Something else to think about

No, he replaced the factory ECU with a jzz30 apexi power FC(using the 1jzgte loom) but then had trouble with the auto not shifting gears, so ended up wiring in an earlier model auto trans ecu(7MG cressidas had a separate ecu for the trans.)

Mmm, must be a different issue we're thinking about, as it clearly states he ran the 2JZ on the 1JZ ECU.

The said article is also on a soarer running a R154, so there was no issue with auto mapping.

Depends whether you want to retain your auto or run an R154 manual I suppose? A getrag supra 6-speed would be bliss
