Hey all, just wondering if the JZX90 factory toyota ECU will run a JZZ30 Soarer? I am manualising my auto completely and dont want any interference from the factory ecu when communicating with the Haltech. I know that the Power FC units are shared (JZZ30/JZX90 Ppower FC is the same part number/box). Will the JZX90 manual ECU run the Soarer dash display and AC properly etcc.???

Aaron, Just run a shift controller box ( $250 ) and a Pro-Ratchet type shifter ( B&M $300 ) as this will have N lockout. Then just use the JZZ30 Harness to JUST run the Haltech. AT box is only 3"x 2" x 1"

Got the shift box from MV wired up in the soarer on the old gearbox at the moment. In that configuration, we have the Haltech running as a piggy back. I bought Ben Burgess' gearbox off him and will send it down to MV for an inspection and a full manualised modification as well some other massaging of the valve body. Having a bit of trouble getting the Haltech to run in standalone mode at the moment.

Hmm, not sure you would bother sending it.. it hasnet done many km's since its rebuild, and was built for bens car without any issues. suppose it doesnt hurt.

Not doubting the gearbox, but if the sprag or 4th gear clutches are a little funky itd be good to change em out now while its out of the car and the cars off the road. The 1.5JZ i bought has about 10,000kms on it, but im still giving it a new water pump and timing belt.

you mean Reverse lockout.. can still grab neutral with it without lifting the red lever. Good shifter but.. I run one in mine |

Well you have installed it wrong mate. I am locked out of P / R / N. Fruitless having it if you can pop N on the upshift. |

Soarer with a Pro Ratchet? Grunty!!! I might have to powder coat the shifter black Anyone got a photo of one installed? I didnt think it would be possible to do so without tearing up the interior

Umm nope.... its how it works. doesnt matter if its in the car or sitting in the box brand new. still does the same thing. its designed like this so that if you have a breakage you can get to neutral if you need to.

Holy sh*t that looks GOOD! That really looks f*cking tough. I didnt realise they would sit so snug. I know nothing if these units, except for the one time I went for a spin in a buick powered HiLux. I love the way the ratchet works, forward>forward>forward> etc... I assume that my mechanic, being of the pushrod variety would know how to set up and fit this. But Id sure as hell like to know more myself! How do you trigger overdrive? And what about coming back down the gears as you pull up at the lights? In my old setup, I had to always be careful to disengage overdrive when going back to first or second, otherwise it'd take off from third and would no doubt fry the box on a firm launch. Never happened, but still worries me. I mean, I couldnt let a person even shift the car for me, for fear they would destroy my gearbox This is really giving me wood right now. I like it!!

Not wanting to be a smart arse, but... From Christian's Profile-" Accessories: Custom interior re-trim, body kit, 20" wheels, custom b&m shifter, selection of guages" It appears he has one fitted also. This may or may not be supported by his photo above. But I am interested. I assume they'd go into an Aristo just as easily?

No dramas lew.. its called reverse lockout.. not neutral lockout. "Single hand operated reverse lockout feature meets NHRA & IRHA requirements " (google b&m pro ratchet and read specs.) My mate has one in his car also and its exactly the same. His was put in by boxstop automatics and his car is running 9's. I guess they know what they are doing with transmissions. When installing these you have to move a pin inside to have them work properly for a 3 speed gearbox... as thats what ours are + an overdrive. I just hope that you dont throw a rod out the side of your block at 150mph and then find yourself net being able to grab neutral to stop your wheels locking up. oh and when moving down gears, the red lever lowers when you go into drive. but you can go back to neutral from drive without lifting it again. Anyway my 2c and if you guys think i am still wrong then let it be. I know you are probably the 2 best soarer mechanics in the country and your words will be heard over mine.

Hey Christian, did you make that Shifter surround out of your old factory auto surround? Im looking at mine now and trying to work out what to do with it for the pro ratchet.

By the way, I second Christian's comment, I have a B&M ratchet in my 'other' car (megashifter not a pro-ratchet) and you are able to ratchet into neutral but not reverse. To grab reverse after ratcheting to neutral, you need to ratchet back to drive and pull the pin. Definitely a safety feature!

Cool. I put mine in the console the other day. Realised that perhaps the reason Neil might have it hooked up for neutral lockout is that he has it set up for 2 speed (powerglide) use /configuration which means there is an extra blockout pin installed. This would give you 1st then shift into 2nd, then shift into 3rd, then BLOCK. The fact that the pro ratchet has provision for TWO park gates means the second park gate ( the furtherest) is used for Park, where as the rest of us have the double park gate BLOCKOUT pin installed, meaning only one 'click' to get it into park as well.

Horses for sourses I guess, some will want and NEED the neutral locked out for their applications, others will prefer to have neutral available at will.
