Hey guys just wondering how long do 1JZ's usually last for before they get tired and start burning oil etc? mine has done 174 000 kms and im just wondering how much longer it should keep going (with regular servicing etc) how many other kms do other cars here have?

my old soarer burned oil at 113,000k but it was bagged.
i think theyre not gona be million mile engines due to the twin turbos and whatnot, but i dont see why they cant go a long time..
ive seen elsewhere on here the average lifespan of the turbos before the first one needs rebuilding is usually 125,000 to 150,000.. more with gentle use and good care.

the turbos will always go before the motor man... the lifespan of the turbos is the lifespan of the motor, considering the cost of turbos... and because theyre not really serviceable... you just take care of them, and rebuild them when theyre going or gone.
if your turbos are in good shape and your engine is... then well... i dunno.. ive never really heard of a 1JZ dying from natural causes.. usually theyre abused or theyre neglected from lack of necessary repairs and die tragically.

apparently my turbos have already been replaced with low km' turbos from a later model. so my only real concern now is the actual motor it seems ok, a bit noisy on start up (tapping sounds)

damn thats a lucky break man new low km turbos... if the tapping disappears i wouldnt worry, i mean, look into it but dont freak, is it a hard metal on metal sound or like a belt flapping sound or like a clicking or what? just when the starter is running? or have yu been under the bonnet listening to where its from with someone else starting the car...
if your engine is clean, doesnt leak any fluids... and runs smooth at running temp.. and you use good synthetic oil and keep after your servicing.. theres no reason your engine wont surpass 300,000 or more... before needing more major service...
but i dont see head gaskets lasting much over 250k... isnt the head gasket part of the 200,000 service package or something listed under the soarer specs?

Steven, I Don't think anyone can put a number of km's to the life of any engine, Unless you've owned it from brand new and know the full history of it, even then, some motors are freakishly reliable, some lemons. Sounds like your big ends are worn a bit Bit noisy for the first few seconds until oil pressure builds up? You should be fine for a while bu there isn't really a way to know exactly how long it's got.. If i were you, I'd line up a new engine and just keep driving yours it may last another 10,000, may last another 50,000...

There is no reason why a properly serviced 1jz wont last you over 500,000+ Kms.
Of course any engine that is thrashed to within inches of it's life wont last long in anyone's books, serviced or not.
drive it nice, service it every 5 - 7,000kms, and it will be happy, mine currently has 157,000kms on it, had 110,000kms this time last year, and definately wasn't oringial km's with the internal wear and tear on the car.
My car has not missed a beat, and runs great, even the turbo's are still in great nick, no smoke, no problems.

My motor has at least 130,000kms on it so far, and other than a brief knock when you first start it cold, it is fine. Mid 170s compression across all cyls. I change the oil and filter every 3000kms, and never give it a hard time when cold, every bit helps
